Why aren't US companies making their own drugs?

What happened?
Earnings per share. In order to pay exorbitant senior executive salaries and pay a couple cents more in earnings per share, companies looked for the cheapest bidder. With few environmental or safety regulations, setting up in China cuts costs and labor was cheap. You can pollute the hell out of the environment, which cuts cost of production. No one complains about ergonomics or exposure to chemical fumes. Get carpal tunnel from lab work? Bye, and they just bring in another lab tech. Vulture capitalism.
And medicaid and medicare reimbursements are so low for generics that there is no financial incentive to make them stateside, or even in Ireland.

What about recalls for carcinogens in generics? Why are shoddy manufacturing practices allowed for overseas manufacturers? Who is in charge of those agencies?
