Supernus Tracking Rep through Outlook

Reps:

Make sure you do not use your personal computer to access Outlook during regular business hours. Microsoft is tracking this with the device used, location, date, and time stamp and providing it to Supernus. Be smart. Please see below. This is a cheap way for TR to keep a tab on you. The irony here is they are actually tracking your activity on a device they did not even purchase for you. I am sharing this with you because I am giving my notice next week for a job that pays significantly more money.

Sincerely,

IT Helpdesk

What if I get email and calendar on my personal phone? Can they track that?

Yes but that is too expensive for them to monitor your every movement outside your home. They do want to know when you are home so they will pay Microsoft for that data on activity from Outlook on your personal home desktop. It is super shady and I just discovered they were doing a few months ago.

As much as I appreciate a heads up… who is really accessing their email from their computer at home? We all have iPads. So unless they can track you via your iPad or phone with outlook, that’s not the biggest deal.

I thought it was common knowledge that, since they are company property, the ipads and vehicles have always had gps tracking capabilities but it’s not used to keep tabs on reps.

There are states where tracking an employee without explicit agreement is illegal. If they are doing this, they must notify the employees in those states. Then we’ll all know that they’re doing it. If this hasn’t happened, employees in those states now have reason to ask for the data. I smell an easy lawsuit. Thanks, disgruntled IT guy, for the heads up. Good luck and congrats on getting out of here.

Are they only looking during business hours? What if we login on a desktop after hours, are they still accessing our private data then?

BUT, if you use your work computer for work related business (outlook) it will time stamp and pinpoint your location as well, so if you are at home it won't really matter witch device you access company pages with.. DUH.
