Let me premise this with belief that some women were horribly wronged by Novartis. In fact, what happened was so egregious that the courts concuded these few real examples must be a sign of a pervasive and extensive problem, but most of us know this was not proven. No doubt a court hearing the stories would be angry and want to punish the big bad corporation. Regardless of your views on the validity of the payouts, read on if you collected.
Gender and sexual discrimination is real and still exists in corporate America today. If you were a woman harmed who rightfully collected damages, I hope it rights the wrong to some extent. For the many, many womwnwho collected who were never wronged, I would like to make a suggestion to you. We all can use more money and it is easy to justify cashing these windfalls to help out your family. But think about the fact some women in industry are suffering real harm. Consider starting a fund to help women through mentorship, leadership training, and survival in corporate america, or even a legal fund for women with real claims.
I hope you consider using the money for something besides lining your pockets if you are one of the many who suffered no harm. Do something good with it that allows you to still look in the mirror. I think the ridicukous payments to all women minimizes the real harm done to a few. IMHO the payouts were. Peverse, wrong, and an over reaction to some horrific actions of a few, and you know this was not a pervasive anti woman environment. As a female here, I love my job and have never faced discrimination here. If this is true for you too, can we find a way to donate the payments to help women who are facing real discrimination?
