strange policy for former employees that were laid off

Covidien HR told me that I cannot get a recommendation letter of any kind from any current Covidien employee for my work at Covidien. I used to work previously at Covidien Surgical. At the termination notice meeting we were told to not expect any current employees to give recommendations be it for job related applications or for academic reasons. Quite a few of the people I worked with got cut too so I had used them for job related references. How do I go about getting a recommendation letter for academic purposes when both my previous managers are still employed with Covidien? Covidien is my first employer and I had worked with them for 4 years.

I honestly feel like taking them to court for this asinine policy of theirs. However, I am no executive tlevel employee and I wouldn't be able to shell out the lawyer fees.n

Don't believe it. I've already written a couple letters. Talk to your manager.

This is not company policy. It's just how Covidien seeks to distance itself from weenies who get bossed around by the HR department of a FORMER employer. Please refrain from associating yourself with the organization in the future.

My manager is so weak. He is such a chicken he would not give a verbal for fear that it is HR setting him up. Weak individual and glad I dont work for his weenie ass anymore.
