ohhh my god... stop it. Just be good in the interview, show up prepared, know your stuff, and you will get a job if you are the most qualified and well spoken in your area. Your interviewer has no way of knowing your sexual preferance, they are not going to ask, they've been though a billion trainings about what to do and what not to do, and what's leagal to ask about. Stop making up weird excuses for failing and do better.
 


















I am a past DM with InVentiv. I have no beef with the company when a generic came out our sales force was gone, it was expected. I do not agree with the gay or not gay issue but how you look and fill in the application from for ethnicity will.

I had to hire all 11 in my district for a new launch and I can inform you that a DM is required to track each applicant based on race and report after each round of interviews (even after phone interviews) what the percentage of minorities were interviewed and what percentage will move on to the next level. If you are to low for face to face interviews they will provide additional minority candidates for you to review and "encourage you" to fully evaluate then additional candidates prior to the next round.

Fortunately my district had two major urban areas in and few rural areas. I had little trouble finding minority candidates in these areas since to be frank HR only sent me minority candidates to look at in these areas. The cities helped my overall percentage and I was not called to participate in one of three teleconference I know of that put the DM on trial in front of their VP and two HR reps to defend their hiring practice.

I was very close with two of these DM's and was informed that the offers to qualified reps that the DM wanted to hire were being held up until the VP would sign off on their missing of the overall percentage goal for their district. The assumption being that the DM was racist. It did not matter if the most of the district was in states like Nebraska or Utah or that you had found absolutely perfect candidates that had sold in that exact territory with that same drug class and had PC wins.

At a later point in the contract I was required to hire a specific person based on the issues above as well as political connections from outside the company by my VP. This person was #4 on my depth chart. I made the mistake of telling my VP that all 4 people could do the job. The others all had years more experience and did better in the face to face interviews. I argued for a day. I gave in. It was not worth my job. The territory never was above the bottom 10% in a major city that was all top 30%.

Some of you reading now will think I am a racist for informing you of the practice behind the hiring process. That is fine. The information is accurate it is just a policy designed with "good" intentions that results in the best not being picked. My district and I all got along and we did quite well.
 






If 10% of population is a certain group....would they be required 50% of that group into a job in a certain area? I notice that certain areas where the population is non-white the managers hire those groups in those areas almost 80-100%. Maybe they are the best choices because they know the language and fit in.

To me qualified is qualified. The very best candidate should be selected. Disregard race or age or whatever. What is fair is fair. I worked with a young man in one area who hardly could speak, walked and acted like a gang member and to everyone was a laughing stock. For some ratio related reason he was hired....eventually he lived up to his behavior and was fired.....after the damage was done. The best candidate lost out on the job and it was a big loss in business for the company...

Sounds like reverse discrimination to me......

Seems at times that 10% of population have most jobs...Levels in companies too. They go looking for someone to fill a diversity quota...but often the best candidates are ignored because they are not the right color, race, etc...The other guy may get the job but be a total failure and damage the company along the way....Is this not crazy or what? Agree with above post 100%
