S1- is composed of 3/4 of each divisions sales force over 70% are S1, it's not the bottom 10%
S2- is the the top 30% and they qualify for S3
S3- 10% - had to be within the top 30% but not necessarily the top 10%

The system is not fair and is pissing a lot of people off. But S1 has a huge variation- you could be 31% and still be an S1, and honestly isn't making a lot of tenured reps feel very good about placements. There should be another level for entry level so people don't feel disrespected and put down. But S1 doesn't mean you are the bottom of the sales force at all. It's about competancies and about #'s not one or the other. It's not just about your manager, but ALL of the managers views on your contributions and values. When placements happen 30% will be happy, which is not a fair assessment of efforts and value.

I agree, "other managers" should not be deciding my fate. "Other managers" have not been on calls with me nor have they participated in any discussion with me that relates to my competencies. I think we should all bombard every Tom, Dick and Harry manager at our meetings this week and request 30 minutes of their time to discuss our core competencies and how we measure up against our peers.

This is a ridiculous demoralizing rating system created by ineffective leaders with zero business sense.
Basic Leadership 101- People do not respond to stripping them of their dignity.

Classic management by committee. Classic Merck. Get used to it or get out. Your choice. Your decision. If you choose to stay, shut up and suck it up. No excuses.

Don't forget the MGAM's are also part of the exec team and WILL throw you under the bus too.

The dirty little secret is that this meaningless BS won't save any of us a couple of years down the road. Get comfortable with being a contract rep working for half the pay and benefits, because it's coming----fast.

Never a truer word spoken. There are some MGAMs (Texas anybody?) who despise rep's who show any initiative (because they never spend any time out with the reps seeing what can actually be done), try to blatantly steal rep's ideas, exclude reps from meetings and win back to back Masters Clubs.....

It's not about competencies either, its about relationship with the manager. It makes me want to vomit. The laziest rep in the district is S3 and the good old CTL is pulling S1s to cover.

There is an S3 in my district that was well below the top 30%, well below

That would be because the brainchild who dreamed this idiot idea up forgot to include business performance as a component of your promotional criteria. We are supposed to be selling, right? I was top 20% and ended up a S1. So did 6 of my other counterparts. Not enough ass kissing.

Do any of you pay attention or ask questions? No representative could become an S3 if they were not in the Top 30% in the region when looking at their core competency scores. BUSINESS PERFORMANCE WAS NOT INCLUDED in the placement process. There is no Top 20, you may have placed in the next 20% which means you placed in the Top 30% with your business performance included. Which means you did not place in the Top 30% for your core competencies. I am not in any way saying i agree with the process but not understanding it is even worse.

You forgot to mention that the only the managers assessment counts--they give "special assignments" to those they want to promote, then give them an award of excellence for completing the assignment, then surprise, surprise, they are in the top 30% of the subjective evaluation.

Gee, wiz if your are right, I was right, process seems a tiny bit stacked.

Subjective Sam says can still not get to base if only one ump (needing glasses) makes the call!
