Stop Lying to the docs and nurses

Hey you guys, what do you know about the new study showing metafolin actually increases red blood cell folate, therefore, is better for the patient thinking about getting pregnant or basically just needing a calcium/folate supplement. I picked up the study by Lamars (I think that's the name) and started reading. The office manager had already REMOVED all my pamplets that say patients should not take anything with metafolin, and that basically the talk about metafolin has been untrue. Now I look like a liar, and the docs are getting kinda testy with me.

anyone else have this problem?????

I've been in several of my offices and all my lit in the waiting room has been thrown away, according to the nurses I spoke with. The docs are really not happy with what we're trying to do by slaming this metafolin thing. They think we're idots. I don't understand it, but I can assure you I will by the end of the week.

Earth to Therscription and Xanodyne reps.......YOU SELL VITAMINS. THESE ARE NOT DRUGS, METAFOLIN, FOLATE? MIX IN SOME VEGIES AND YOU'LL BE FINE!

INCREASE RBC PRODUCTION, FROM A VITAMIN?

GET A CLUE NEEDS TO DO A BETTER JOB.

Who do think makes more money? Believe me, the vita chicks do...hell, we get paid to put out samples for crying out loud...If you've ever had a baby with NTD, then you would not say, it's just a vitamin. You are both dumb morons.

Give me afucking break. You sample vitamins. We have human history on our side. NTDs do occur, so does mental retardation, so do club feet, lazy eyes, etc.

The addition of folate, ANY FOLATE helps. Any monkey can by folate at grocery store. There is no evidence based medical study that compares a woman with a healthy diet, who takes care of herself v a woman with a healthy diet who takes care of herself and takes a vitamin. The FDA regulates dietary supplements as foods, and not as drugs. The FDA does not pre-approve dietary supplements on their safety and efficacy, unlike drugs. In contrast, the FDA can only go after dietary supplement manufacturers after they have put unsafe products on the market.

Do you know what efficacy means?

I do not sell PrimaCare, but I scanned a multi-page brochure in an office.
It did not sound to me like you are slamming metafolin. What I read claims that all folate is good. Some just takes longer to be absorbed.
The only thing that looked a little odd was the metafolin trademark was in fine print under the statement.

Page 7 of item #04-292 (if you count the front page) states in the 3rd Paragraph:

"Be aware that some prenatal viatmins contain an untested version of folic acid called Metafolin. Metafolin has never been tested in pregnant women and has not been proven to decrease the incidence of neural tube defects. Make sure your prenatal vitamin contains folic acid, not Metafolin, to make sure your baby is protected. All Ther-Rx prenatal vitamins contain 1 mg of proven folic acid." then in the last paragraph" some women metabolize folic acid more slowly than others, but it is still effectively absorbed."

Sorry folks...the PE rep showed me the studies showing that a lot of women not only have problems metabolizing folic acid, but some can't at all. Also, as far as testing pregnant women...that's kind of stupid seeing as NO ONE would want to be in a test situation during that time anyway. And, the Lamers study PROVES metafolin does increase the folate amts in red blood cells, therefore increasing folate protection. Increasing folate levels in the blood, DOES decrease NTD's. How do I combat THAT?

We sell F-ing vitamins!!!!!!!!!!!! Lucky for us ours are presently considered the best, but you and I both know we will soon be considered equal (most doctors see ALL vitamins as the same now). What seperates our vitamins and our success from the rest is the REPS AT THER-X. We sell ourselves day after day, week after week, and year after year. If the customers love their rep, he or she will remain a succuss. It is the person selling our products, not the product alone. When all vitamins finally become truly EQUAL ( and that will not be long), your personality and relationship with your offices will make the only difference. There are two one pill EFAs coming out after the new year. If you think thing are tough now, just wait time next year. There is always going to be a new kid on the block stiving to be a primacare/primacare one want-a-be. Sell yourself, earn their trust and respect first, the success will come.

Actually, when the FDA and March of Dimes names Metafolin as a necessary folate provider, there will only be one company in the mix, and it ain't gonna be Ther-Rx with Prima-crap.

*IF* that happens there is no way Sciele will be able to keep other companies from adding metafolin to their pnvs.
The last time I checked a Nutrition During Pregnancy brochure from ACOG, it still named FOLIC ACID as the key nutrient to decreasing the incidence of neural tube defects, no Meta-foo-foo-doo-doo.

What a stupid post. If it was so necessary, than 99% of the people walking around today would be suffering from NTD.

Please read this slowly so that you can understand: "THEY ARE ALL THE SAME.........A VITAMIN IS A VITAMIN IS A VITAMIN."

Don't work for any of you guys, but if someone cannot convert ANY folic acid to active folate they would be dead because they would not be able to replicate DNA.

I have a factor-5 mutation that inhibits the conversion of folic acid to an active form. Not completely. But during pregnancy it is crucial for the active form of folic acid to be absorbed in sufficient quantities to reduce the chance of an NTD. I was prescribed Prenate Essential with metafolin to increase the amount of active folate. Why would you consider this a bad thing?

Don't go on these board for advice, trust your doctor. You are only going to get BS advice on here, and I work for this company at least for now. This company board will only post hurtful things. Go see your doctor and if need be to make you feel better get a second opinion.
