Steve Sembler will be missed

Steve is one of the best people I have worked with in over 20 years in pharma. He is one of the rare leaders in Eisai's recent history that has shown class and maturity.

He is one of a small minority of executives that have the ability to make business decisions and hold people accountable without being an asshole. At some level almost all leaders lose their humility and humanity and that does not seem to have happened with Steve.

It appears that Steve will be taking the fall for bad luck, bad business decisions and poor planning, most of which pre-dated his unfortunately short tenure with Eisai.

Steve, I highly doubt that you bother to read Cafepharma but on the odd chance that you do, thank you and good luck. I hope I have the opportunity to work with you again in the future.

SS seemed good on the surface but who knows what happens in the home office.

On a serious note, why did Steve leave? Fired? Got off a sinking ship? Weird that so many high level people have come and gone from Eisai so quickly in the last two years.

It was a plain and simple downsizing caused by lost products, missed opportunities with new drugs, loser pipeline. Four VPs were let go. And it looks like none are being replaced.

HO here. Quite simply Steve was the most respected leader in the place. Everyone I've talked to considered him a mentor. Unemotional and smart, a strategic thinker. The angry ones here were just disappointed he didn't fire OB and that is a small handful that are CP OBSESSED!
