I am looking to graduate in May of 2013 with a Bachelor's degree in Political Science, but due to my track record with various types of sales I feel this would be a good course for me. I would really like to enter the Medical Device sales field but am not sure the best route to get started. Anyone on here have advice on what to do?
Thanks

Good Luck trying to get into device sales as a newly minted graduate. You ought to build your resume in other areas of medical (B2B) sales like Home Health Services-Sales, DME/HME (wheelchairs, oxygen, etc), lower-level pharma, or sales associate positions in device/pharma. Bottom line is that most new college graduates do not get med. sales positions unless having worked through an internship program that resulted in a job offer. My advice would be to find a smaller-local company that sells home med. equipment. You will get a feel for the sales process and start to develop relationships. You have to realize that a lot of this business is about relationships; yes, your "mouse trap" has to work or be better than the next, but it does not matter without a strong foundation of physicians, materials management, nurse relationships...that's just my two cents.

Right out of College it will be tough to break in without knowing somebody on the inside. Your best bet is to go work for ADP Small Business, move up to major accounts if the opportunity is available. Serve your time 3-5 years, build your resume. Not saying that it cannot be done but most Device reps I know have gone this route. Of course if you want to make even bigger money try and get in with a Gas and Oil Broker, selling energy. A lot less stress and a lot more money. Getting in has been worth every rejection letter sent back!
