So much for valuing our personal time

This company continues to amaze me. So yesterday during our dpm in nj we get emails about a town hall this coming Monday at a hotel around the Newark airport that Chris Kaplan is having from 5 to 7 pm. We are given the option to accept or decline, however before our dpm is over, the word from several managers with almost threatening appeal was that it is "highly recommended," "strongly strongly encouraged," or from one mgr, "MANDATORY," that we attend. Now I'm confused. Why does this company continue to insist on invading my personal time? Chorus is also having a mandatory telecon in the morning, is this not something he can cover then? The interesting thing about the mandatory telecon that morning, is that it takes place during the time the company was supposedly giving the field for admin time...but ever month during the few hours of admin time that we get we will have a telecom. This company can't even give us that.

But back to the original topic. This town hall which is "highly recommended" or mandatory to attend takes place outside of work hours. It is unfair, and ridiculous. Second, when town halls are held for campus employees aren't they held during work hours. If it's so important that we attend then shouldn't it take place during work hours. Third, have you tried traveling around the Newark airport at 5pm? It's a miserable place to travel at that time. Fourth, wouldn't it be a cost savings to have this take place at the East Hanover campus instead which is only 20 minutes away?

Again this company continues to disrespect our time. No matter how many times this company gets sued for overtime, it will never learn or respect our personal time. There will never be work life balance in the field at Novartis. I guess I will just add the 2 or more hours for this stupid Town Hall to the 6 or so hours of bs work I am stuck doing for this company every week that novartis doesn't actually recognize as work.

Even more to the point is that we could really give a shit about what Chris says at this town hall. He could easily type it up in a email and send his nonsense to us. It would save time, and money. Everyday I think I can't hate this company more than I already do, yet by the time of my first call I can usually add something to the list. This company is the pits and absolutely has no respect for reps lives.

Don't you get it? They don't care what you think. They're just talking to themselves at this point, probably patting each other on the back about how 'connected' they are to the sales reps. The Japanese Bataan Death March is more appealing than going to Newark and listening to this drivel on a Monday night!

Nobody can make you do anything. Just let them know you had family time already accounted for. Besides,It's the same canny speech each time, nothing new, nothing of value. Just likes to hear himself. Your managers are the ones on the chopping block, and are nervous about preserving them selves.

Let's count all of the task items that are "work" that we are asked to do on our personal time...
1. mid - year review - better not log onto vpn and complete this during the hours of 8-5
2. year - end review - again, fit it in but not during working hours
3. expense report - takes at least 3 hours to complete
4. i-learn - most recently 2 hour sexual harrasment training
5. driver's education - it's almost Christmas- we should be seeing this soon
6. sample accountability- make sure to print the 60 page policy and then take test
7. trackers- one for every product due Sunday night to manager
8. product training - if a team member leaves/gets promoted or fired..whomever is left has about 48 hours to learn new product, take test and then get sent off for product certification. But, you still have to make 10 calls while cramming in the new information.
9. CIA training - each one of these amounts to 1-1 1/2 hours of time.
10. Dinner programs - oh yeah they start at 6:30 PM - after making sure all 3 attendees haven't consumed to much alcohol and ensuring they can drive themselves home, you arrive home at 11 PM to be up bright and early for the 7:30 AM breakfast meeting with the doctor who will only see you at this time or at 5:30 PM.

Yeah, can't wait to hear all of the corporate jargon that CK will utter tomorrow. I'm sure the canned speech and the SEOU numbers will be what he focuses on. Some jackass is going to ask the question, "So, will there be any restructuring?" My bet is by question #3, this question comes up. Why they even waste their time and the company's money on this is beyond me. It's obvious that this is just a dog and pony show and it needs to stop. No one believes anything they say. (and they know this)

Actually a manager asked if there was going to be layoffs and we weren't given a direct answer asside from a lot happened last year, and it is a global company.
