Smiths Medical Reputation ???? Need advice

I recently received a call for a position with Smiths Medical for their respiratory division. The manager is Chris Dupont. Can anyone provide any feedback on this organization-culture, management, products, and reputation? Seems like a massive territory with very high expectations????

Smiths Medical is not a bad place to start if you are just trying to get some medical sales experience. Respiratory is a decent division, but like most of the other divisions the territories are huge. It will be challenging to stay competitive with such a large area to cover. I would ask about the current market share for some of the key products you would have to sell like trach tubes.

Would agree with previous post. They have hired a new president whose previous positions have him making the company profitable only to sell. They have been looking for a buyer for the last 2 years. Have a friend who was just let go in the reorganization. This person finished in the top 10 last year and was let go this year. If you are looking for a quick entry into the medical field to gain experience...go for it. If you are looking for a company to work with for more than 3 years, I would look elsewhere.

How does the Smiths Medical temperature fast fluid warmer (Level 1-H-1200) stack up against the competition? Is the main competitor the Belmont Instrument (Rapid Infuser -2000)?

The H-1200 is the standard for rapid infusion. You will find the Belmont is big in some pockets of the country. It is a nice product but it is expensive. The primary competitor is Arizant, not from a side by side comparison but as a full product offering. Arizant is very good at bundling blankets and fluid into hospitals by the GPO route. The H-1200 is a great product but like most Smiths lines, nothing has been done with it since Smiths acquired Level 1. You will find that most hopsitals have several and will only purchase to replace exsiting units they have had for 10+ years.

Thanks for the reply. Smiths Medical apparently is looking at adding "Temperature Management Specialists" to their sales force(certain geographical locations). Do you believe that the're existing sales force is ineffective in growing the fluid warming market?

Smiths has a huge turnover every couple of years. Most of their products are old and out
dated....their competition eats them alive. They are also known for back orders. Product Managers have left, HR people left, Reps and Managers have left. Google Smiths Medical careers and you will see 30-40 openings under sales.....when a company has that many openings at any given time you should RUN!!
