Slow march to merge with GSK

Well Mates, the inexorable grind toward our merger with GSK continues. AZ slowing sinking in sales, GSK lost in space - can two ugly losers be merged into one beauty queen ?

Nope, it will never happen. This has been rumored since the last 90's! Frenchie will never, never give up the title of CEO! If this idiot turned down Pfizer, there is no chance he would go for GSK, no matter how good a deal it was. Remember, at his level, it's only about what's good for him.

Mergers and consolidation are going on in every industry and will continue as profit margins get squeezed. The only way to survive is to cut costs, eliminate duplication and lower taxes. It is inevitable that the big will get bigger and squeeze out those that fight the trend. AZ will either merge or be taken over eventually. Jobs will be eliminated, benefits cut, salaries marginalized, even the CEOs will see pay cuts due to public pressure.

Yes I remember the rumors in the 90s that Zeneca would merge or be purchased by GSK and none of those rumors came true. And then one day we woke up and presto chango, we were merging with Astra. Most people didn't even know who those corrupt dumb fuckers were. But we sure found out soon enough. How did that merger work out for you?

Get over it Zhole. It was your Sir Tom McKillop that decided to sue the FDA not once but twice because they decided to aothorize a generic version of your $250M drug Diprivan and they have been holding a grudge ever since. Who would you prefer Black, OShea, Zaiser? All losers. And who ran us to the ground? Michael the stammerer and Linda and Mike (Fred Flinstone) Tilton. Dickweed.

The Zeneca leaders may not have been the brightest bulbs in the box but none of them went to prison. None of them used their trainees as sex objects. And you are right about Tilton, he was more Astra than Zeneca. His career was dead until the merger when he found sick bullies were the norm at Astra and quickly realized how to get ahead in the new company. That guy never did an honest days work in his life, never had an original thought, and made an art out of fucking people over, stealing their accomplishments and ideas and promoting them as his own.
Eventually it caught up with him and he got what he deserved. Eventually one of his many enemies rose above him and marched his hairy ass out the door.

Why did I know, that this and every AZ thread on CP somehow gets around to Mike Tilton bashing. I never cared for him either, but this person is obsessed with him. You have to wonder exactly what Tilton did to this person, most likely a male, that has caused such EXTREME bitterness. It would reeeallly be interesting to hear that story!

I knew MT but never worked for or under him. My impression always was that he was someone who could not be trusted. It seemed like he always was looking for victims to embarrass or an angle to make himself look good usually at the expense of someone else. I didn't hate the guy but I tried to avoid him when possible.

Trading was halted in all after-hour and weekend markets in Europe and Asia as officials from the London-based AstraZeneca, PLC confirmed that they had submitted a tender offer for rival drugmaker GlaxoSmithKline, PLC, also from London. The unexpected proposal was submitted directly to Sir Henry Kingston of the Ministry of Labor.

Inquiries have been fielded by the Office of the Exchequer and senior administrators have reluctantly confirmed the initial news reports from Reuters officials. They have likened the proposal to the recently successful takeover of Allergan, maker of Botox, by industry giant Pfizer.

The newly formed company would vault into the number one position in the global pharmaceutical industry, with revenues estimated to exceed $68B USD. Regulators anticipate that the combined entity would likely have to divest itself of several compounds in order to comply with anti-competitive mandates.

Although it could not be confirmed at this time, the newly formed company will be called AstraUSA/AstraMerck/ICI/Stuart/Zeneca/Glaxo/Smith/Kline/French/Beecham/Burroughs/Welcome. When asked for justification, officials stated that by simply introducing themselves the reps of the new company would actually double their current face time with customers. When finally reached for comment, the GSK CEo was quoted saying "Sounds good by me, at this point who gives a shit either way – we were all just tired of waiting for the Pfizer death axe to fall on the last of us."

Sure.

The fatso bride that no man wants or could stand to marry will force her will... she has a Frenchman guiding her romantic interests!

Sell AZ stock now or sell it later if anyone is still buying.

But there is a lot of meaning for the future of Pharma in this. If you go back to 1985 and count the number of Pharma companies and compare it to today, you can see our future. Each of these companies had their own marketing, training, r & d., human resources depts that offered promotions and opportunities for advancement. All are mostly gone now and only a select 4 or 5 will exist in the next few years. You either get bigger or get gone.
