Six Sigma Will Save Us All

After all, it was implemented because things were going so well for Motorola at the time, who was using Six Sigma for ummmm cell phone manufacture. So the parallels are all there for a huge success! Maybe we too will be bought out by Google to make cheap Android style devices.

A slight correction- Six Sigma HAS saved us! When the great ES was a Black Belt she suggested and implemented the many changes that have directly led to Lilly attaining and keeping its leadership position in Pharma.

All hail Six Sigma! 1980's management at its best!

Are you really truly sure about that, and not just being facetious, because NOBODY IS EVER FACETIOUS here on cafepharma ;)

As a discipline, Six Sigma can help companies cut costs, improve quality, and streamline processes.

But that is not what we have here. Instead, we have Lilly Six Sigma. While it is still called Six Sigma, Lilly Six Sigma is nothing like real Six Sigma.

Here, it has become a tool to 1. Promote people who otherwise would not be promoted 2. Cram some ill-advised program down the throats of the organization 3. Provide cover for something that has already been decided
4. Justify funding for something that otherwise would never be funded 5. Create faux savings numbers that in reality are no more valuable than Monopoly money, but sure sound good.

Like many things that get ruined when they are Lilly-ized, Six Sigma is just one more causality.
