I work in Gen/Roche ClinOps and everything is shoestring for a while now. Hiring freeze, zero travel, off-site meetings like we had pre-pandemic in Copenhagen, Vegas, Monterey, etc,...it's allover. Sure, it was nice that they proactively adjusted salaries during the inflation rise but as a group, we are squeezed. The main area where it is felt is with headcount. The attrition is constant and there are no replacements. Transformation is supposed to make people flow to work where they want to flow to...well, surprise, surprise...people don't voluntarily ask for more work and don't flow to work they have zero background in. So if one specialized sub-group in PDF looses headcount, there's no replacement avenue.
I don't really fear layoffs because they quiet laid off loads of people by doubling down on the transformation delusion...same model as the ecosystem in the Field group really...with incompetent, completely not-invested leadership. PDG leadership is a 2-3year gig, then you take your title and get a job at another Pharma company. The worst was Karen...no background whatsoever in Biotech/Pharma besides working for big a Consulting Company that provides services to Pharma. Came in, did a horrendous job selling or even explaining the point of blowing up functional roles and organizational matrices so that everything is flat, nimble and of course agile. Hung around, mostly disinterested and disingenuous for not even 2 years then took her exit from this dumpsterfire she lit and upside herself as a change maker to another Pharma company. We'll see how long the new head of PDG lasts...he's in Europe and while we are all supposedly One Roche, but hey ..are we really, I don't think he cares or understands what's going on with PDG at all.
So no, I don't see any increased budgets, goodies or incentives coming our way anytime soon. It's time to hunker down, stay low and invisible and keep riding with the Clown car we are in. Paycheck is ok but I don't really care about any of my work any longer so perhaps that's why they don't reward us anymore...not sure that will work out for them.
Oh and genome specialist salary...they are required to give you the salary band, so the minimum and maximum range for that kind of level role. Specialist is a crap title, they tried to implement it in PDG and people lost their shit. So they went with lead. If the recruiter doesn't give you a salary band, they are an asshole and chances are they would fire you after you did 1 or 2 projects they needed temporary help with. Good luck, pat is good, leadership and general future outlook is bleak. Either we buy a big competitor with our war chest or we flounder since the greedy Roche clan will never sell their golden egg, although one of them did sell all her shares...maybe she is the smart one in the family...
