Side job or 1099?

Let’s be honest here. Consistently making really good money, year after year, is very difficult in the new Ethicon. Many who blow out their numbers will suffer the next year or move on to another role (marketing or another J&J company). Maybe, although doubtful, our yet-to-be-named VP of Sales will make drastic changes.
I really like my job and the people I work with. However, 2017 was way down for me and entirely outside of my control. There aren’t any viable job opportunities in my small territory at the moment. Has anyone picked up other lines as a distributor (1099)? I’m sure management would lose their proverbial sh!t if they found out but we all have to eat. Ideally I wouldn’t be doing cases and would only do it outside of my normal Ethicon hours. I’ve thought about grafts, bone cement, DME, etc.
Open to suggestions. I want to stay in devices and at Ethicon. However.....
