Service Reps? Anyone heard of these?

I have heard we are moving to a model that incorporates an additional tier of field reps, brining in "service reps" to handle menial tasks like dropping off samples to docs that don't take sales calls. The idea would be to free up time for more experienced and more expensive reps.

Does anyone have this at their company?

If so, any guesses on number of "service reps per full sales rep"?

Also curious about salary differences or what you might call them at your company.
