Year after year ND is becoming a standard joke in Division I football. Did you watch their performance against South Florida last night? Totally pathetic. Even weather delays and evacuating the South Bend stands TWICE due to lightening wasn't able to break South Florida's momentum. I figured once they got rid of Fatboy Weis that ND would start to rebuild their program. I had high hopes for Brian Kelly. But if last nights game was any indication of what to look forward to in 2011 ND is on the way to another .500 season or worse.
My question is how does ND manage to hold onto those nationally syndicated TV contracts? Are all the decision makers in the TV industry catholic? ND hasn't had a decent football team in over 10 years. It would seem that with all the sponsorship and TV revenue that pours into their athletic program the could at least win more games than they lose in a season. Once those TV contracts go bye-bye ND's athletic revenue will fall off the edge of a cliff. The administration must be worried sick about it. But who wants to watch a loser team every Saturday afternoon on a network channel? There are other teams much more deserving of such a contract.
ND has already gone through 5 or 6 loser coaches in the past 12 years. So this problem runs MUCH deeper than just in the coaching staff. It's the administration that chooses these losers.
I wonder if they gave Kelly a 10-year contract like they did to Weis? Is the university going to have to buy him out too in order to make him go away?
