AM told my boss that he wants to get rid of middle management because they're the problem.

They need to keep getting external validation to tell them that it's a great place to work (tm), because every time they ask the folks doing the actual work all they hear is people telling them that "this place needs some drastic improvement".

Maybe they have finally worked it out. More cuts, more "my buddy from my last company" gets promoted above the remaining people, more of the same.

Expect the beatings to continue until morale improves.

Who got promoted?

OK, they get hired at a grade above the existing people while they are told that we can't promote anyone or we can't have any more ADs or whatever. Only we can have new ADs just as long as they come from outside.

there have been "friends of rt" who worked with him in the past that came in at sr director. many didn't work out or left. the funny thing is he would hire these people and then complain the org was top heavy. how special.

AM is the bigger problem. He's not done driving people away.

It's not uncommon for a new CIO to come in and stir things up. However he is erratic in his style. It doesn't help that RT sold the entire org on a Demand and Delivery model when all along he intended to put AM on top of everything. And make no mistake that's exactly what is happening. Add to that they have been cutting costs and moving all they can to low cost countries the past few years and he wants additional millions to pay for the salaries of his high priced friends coming in. Sometimes there is value in a strategy to drive people out, but I think it's very risky in this instance and likely a miscalculation on his part.

i don't think they are all jerks. My boss is doing a great job of keeping my team focussed and out of the line of fire. Maybe helps that she's not in head office.

There are plenty of good people at Quintiles. The problem for many like your boss is the vacuum of information over extended periods of time will impact teams regardless. The latest IT leadership call resulted in more questions, supposition, and ambiguity than it did providing answers.

A lot of the good people are leaving or thinking about leaving. The result will be an organization with the same tired "leaders" we've had for years.

If it is just going to be the same tired leaders left, won't the approach of bringing in new blood potentially weed them out? I am not saying I agree with the approach, but it sounds like there is not much respect for the existing leadership so a shake up could get things to a better place. Are there truly no good leaders in the Q IT management team?
