October 2010: Sanofi laid off 1,700 US employees due to restructuring triggered by growing generic competition and other factors. The cuts were completed throughout 2011 according to transition needs. The layoffs amount to about 25 percent of the company's US pharmaceutical operation.

The French will not care about US operations. All R&D will be centered in France and all management will be centered there as well.

Start taking french lessons and plan on moving to Paris if you get purchased by this company.

They just shuttered the giant former HQ of Aventis in Bridgewater NJ last year, thousands of jobs gone.

They also cut the living daylights out of their European operations, but EU judges stopped it, and only let them fire so many people.

Merck has also kicked many many people to the curb from legacy Schering Plough. No matter who buys you, you guys are in for a really rough ride.

The French gov't will stop the layoffs of french people but if Sanofi buys B&L neither the French Gov't or the American Gov't will protect your jobs in the US. Sanofi is licking their chops. Save money by major job cuts without any political backlash.

After B&L's massacre of Groupe Chauvin don't expect any mercy from Sanofi.

Not saying some layoffs won't happen but they are going to need a salesforce to sell our products
