San Francisco or Seattle...

Which Site gets closed first? In 2012?

My guess would be Seattle due to the more drastic cuts in October, and ASF has such a great track record in New Drug Discovery...

Seattle seems out of the way and sort of the forgotten child.

Frisco is closer by, to the HO, and can be more easily watched.

I don't think either will be chopped.

Probably easier to get buyers for the South San Francisco site

It's all leased, and too many For Lease signs in SSF bespeak low demand. It is possible that the US brains / management will telecommute and work Chindia hours. Regardless there is 0 regional draw to CA or WA., so I'd say both likely to go.

It is interesting to note that they own the AWA site. The ASF site is leased.

It is also interesting to note that RP has never been to AWA, despite maintaining a residence in nearby Bellevue. He does have an office there -- other people swap using it Maybe he's been there and no one has seen him. Still, it's odd.

Another strike against AWA: they were originally slated for big expansion. Now, except for programs which support ongoing deals/programs, they are entirely gutted. Once those programs move down the pipe there will be no reason to maintain AWA.

The (non)closure of AWA might have more to do with real estate than science. That's a sweet site, but real estate is depressed in Seattle right now.

RP has been to AWA over the years, in fact he has been to AWA at least 2-3 times within the last month.

It won't be Seattle, there is triple the brainpower in Seattle vs. ATO, despite the massive difference in headcount. KS and RP know the future of Amgen is riding on what we do here.

ASF was a mistake, easy to close and forget.
