Hey, get a load of the fearless leader talking about rewarding some hard-working peons that have been the fixed targets for upper management sit down bathroom visits.

-no hesitation or smirk about rewarding shareholders (i.e. himself with his stock options)
-the rest of the money goes to WalMart strategy
-total bullshit on employee bonuses and pay at 1:36. You tell me if this was convincing. Notice the huge, nervous smirk on his face.

I hope the Patriots make it to the Superbowl again Steve so we can hear about your wonderful story about riding in the same limo that other Patriots rode in before!!!

Hoo Boy! Steve wasn't very transparent about his desire (or lack thereof) to pass through a bonus for its employees and you know that's OK.

Steve, I want you to keep your house in Manhattan and enough income to vacation on Martha's Vineyard. I don't want you to miss any of the fine things you feel like you have worked so hard for in your life. I could tell when you smugly walked past us last year at the NSM that you had gotten fat and happy off your stock options and that's ok. Better that you're the douchebag here and not me.

Another corporate asshole who does not say we buy labs to grow.
Buy labs that are being investigated by the government

Dear Peons (I mean employees),

You get to keep your job. Now I get to keep more of your stuff because you dare get so greedy.

Like the $50 phone allowance I graciously offered you. That crisp extra $50 sure feels good in my wallet before I hand it to my ski trip maid service at the 4 Seasons - Hah Hah!

I also get to keep more of your time by demanding you pre-call plan no less than 2 days before you get in the field and I just might make it 2 weeks in advance if you anger me. That's right - I want more of your time because your computer will not close until at least 10:30 every night. Don't mind me - I'll be on my third glass of Chardonnay by then. And don't think you can stop by Lowe's for a furnace filter during the day. I'll track your ass and if you get out of line you might as well fill out an application while you're there!

Oh! And Maria, on Fox Business, asked me if I am going to give bonuses because of the tax cut and I said we were "discussing it". Well, I've made up my mind and here's my answer - Like Hell! You're not getting anything! Hah hah! I've got super high taxes in Manhattan and I'll be damned if that extra money won't go to my stock option growth to pay those. Do me a favor and sell your house and move into a trailer if your taxes outpace your comp package. I don't want to hear your sob story, OK?

Now don't make me mad or I will yank your .25% merit increases. I mean it and don't cross my line.

Signed,
Steve

Well said, and Bravo for letting everyone in this company what the actual truth is. Folks, it is all about the shareholders and even more about the few top executives in this company that really take advantage. After speaking to some long time employees, they always figure out a way to get over on the life blood of this company. The sales and service staff.

I realize we work for the shareholders and so do people at AT&T and Apple. Both companies are bonusing their staff.

Not shitty Quest though. After plucking our $50 phone allowance maybe Steve will get a bright idea and take away the bonuses that only 20% of the sales reps are making. Wait - I better not give him any bright ideas...

He's no Ken Freeman

No he isn't, but then Ken Freeman wasn't the saint that everyone makes him out to be. Jan Leschly needed someone to take SBCL off his hands so that he could complete the merger with GW and Ken was smart enough to say yes to the offer he couldn't refuse.

Quest was massively downsizing during Ken's early tenure having left markets or with plans to leave many other markets. Ken had no plan what to do next beyond integration which he did very tentatively. When it was time to move on, he picked Surya. Ken was no rock star, but he could talk to people and shake hands. 2 skills that were beyond Surya.

It is a good point that Ken picked Surya and that is a big blot on his legacy. Though Surya sure made Ken look good. There however is no doubt that under Ken's leadership despite turbulent times in the industry, things were pretty good and he valued the sales organization. The overall mission focus and appreciation of employees was much higher back than.

Wasn't he a Corning guy appointed to head the newly spun off Quest Diagnostics?
