Riad preparing for a special conference call with sales force soon

Heard about a conference call coming soon. Something about rebadging second semester. Not sure I understand what that means but Riad is going to pull CTLs into a special meeting next month to discuss options, and he will have call with salesforce sometime after that. I hate the sneaking around. So much for transparency that our leaders always talk about. There is only transparency when good people are being "right sized." Not much until that point. Good luck to all.
 




















Yes, the previous poster is incorrect about Schering folks who need to be concerned. It is actually the whole company, but this will not be as bad as one may think. IT IS NOT a lay-off or any kind of re-badging. Merck is going into a strategic alliance with another large Pharma company and the sales forces will have a "relationship" . Think about the companies who have been pro-active in eliminating the possibilities of government prosecution for "kickbacks" concerning co-payment coupons. You all were upset about this....Now or soon you all will be ready to kiss Riad's feet in being so thankful. Just wait until you see what "the government" has in store for JNJ and Gilead and others you have not cared about this little problem. just wait......

Wrong, you have never worked with Riad. Pull CTL's into a meeting? Dead wrong, he has said ctl's are equal to reps and he only meets with VP's and above. This isn't a vaccine mapping project where they bring ctl's in. It has been posted before, there are new faces popping up for a reason. Look around, there is a reason for this especially if it doesn't make sense. Look at your career profile, you better have multiple skills and have had different positions. I don't mean s1-s-2 to LER. More like nae, rep, hsc, ctl, analyst; very broad experience at mother. Your current boss won't be your boss by year end. Your current counterparts won't exist by year end. Your hq friend.

I knew it! There really are placeholders in the field, all part of the master plan. Is this why the new hires have been having private tc's without ctl/dco knowledge? Riad has deployed his hq and field peeps to begin the dirty work. Jerks! Saving their own arses to get promoted soon.

All should be concerned because the formulas they use to determine who stays/goes is so convoluted that it is nearly impossible to figure anything out for certain

There is very good news for many of the soon to be downsized ineffective salesforce - I saw help wanted signs at two Paneras this week

Absurd!

Damaging move. If this takes effect they'll lose MANY current people, even those who they view as most effective. Experienced reps will no longer apply for work here.

Advancement here still seems to depend on if the manager likes you. Then, other managers liking you because manager A chats you up! All this pow wow gets you a new job or a big deal bump in rank....On the flip side, it can mean forever in the crapper if the managers become influenced by negative sway.

Have seen some top notch people stay in idol. Have seen very disliked by accounts and reps get major jumps in grade$. Have seen people who never do much work be praised and protected by managers. Seen very mediocre reps who AK, get big promotion$. Seen people responsible for pushing a team over a hump get zero recognition when the team makes the win.....

Instead of this speculated move, work on cleaning up the system!!

This makes so much sense based on what we are experiencing. What is the timeline for these changes?

If this happens then this will be just another move that shows why Merck best days are behind it. Innovation is no longer necessary. All upper management is doing is cutting cost and hoping for the best. A company that does not respect its sales talent will no longer be relevant . Upper management can only blame the troops for its poor business decisions for so long and then they run out of excuses. Merck is just about reaching this point in its history. So glad to be gone from Merck and with a sales organization that appreciates the employees that work hard to move the business forward. Best of luck to those left behind at Merck.

Bewildered reps, abound. :( Not a good place to be if you're edging near those retirement ages. If you haven't earned a pension that's at least visible to the naked eye you may need to load up on lottery and sweepstakes tickets.
