REVOLUTION!!

This is the most serious of posts.

It is time to turn on our the leadership of this company and forcibly instill change.
Remember the birth of the USA, witness the events in the middle east and a rise up against tyranny. Corporate America has become an ever oppressive villain and independent of outcome we the people, the employees must take a stand.

The campaign and battles will need to be legal, will undoubtedly have real casualties, but if constructed and executed right will be effective in significantly restructuring this company with people other than the status quo inbred raised sycophant do nothings which bobble from slogan to slogan with no real vision, persistence or leadership.

I would like to use this thread to brainstorm ideas for concrete steps that will allow us to undermine and challenge the leadership of this company in a very real and visible way. The ideas will need to be assembled into a coherent and sequenced plan, leading conspirators and anonymous participants carefully recruited and convened - but extremely impressive, successful and effective revolts have been waged under much more dire conditions and much higher stakes.

I know there will be a majority of cynical and juvenile posts in response to this - for many valid and invalid reasons. None the less, if you have a wide perspective, if this resonates with you, help to push past the noise and work to right the world. We are not Nazis, we are not children. We are Brutus

Join the Revolution.

You are joking? There is nothing we can do. This is a publically traded company and the only opinion(s) that matter are on Wallstreet. You mean absolutely nothing. Get a clue. There is no grand plan. The best one is for me and you to just leave and be replaced by an individual with no self-worth, no conscious and no ability to think creatively or want to cause a single wave. I would rather put my energy into getting out of this horrible place.

I would first suggest finding a stock owner who would volunteer introducing a motion for a vote by shareholders to remove the current R&D leadership who is incompetent and has not been able to fill the drug pipeline adequately. R&D needs to be sanitized all the way down to EC+3 at the very least, because that's how bad the favoritism has gotten.

Second, the new leadership must re-build a nimble R&D composed of independent drug discovery units (like small biotechs or start-ups) with strong links with academic labs to leverage cheaper postdocs and students labor. Merck doesn't have to wholly own these units, but certainly a majority stake. These units could be built along therapeutic areas but not necessarily so, and they must be responsible for their quotas of successful new drug recommendations. Success must mean clinical success at phase II at the very least.

Poor performing units must be disposed off quickly and rebuilt with competent leaders. That's the only way I know of to keep productivity high in drug discovery.

It will take high level of management skills and experience to manage things that way. But hey! the old behemoth centralized models with a professor on top ain't working for the last 10 years. Intelligence in drug discovery is all over the world and not centralized in a clique of a few who pretend to be hot shots.

Other areas of the company need attention as well, but I have no expertise there, so somebody else should chime in.

True! Merck nowadays sucks real bad because of incompetence in R&D primarily, and perhaps in other areas.

"You say you want a revolution, well, you know we all want to change the world....
You say you got a real solution, well you know we'd all love to see the plan..." John Lennon
who also said "life is what happens while we're making other plans".

revolution? really? merck eats it's own. I used to raise my hand with ideas. I used to speak up. To be a vioce of sanity. I've now been gone three years. merck doesn't care. it doesn't answer to employees no matter how good the intentions. merck answers to stockholders.

good luck with all that. "send lawyers, guns and money" Warren Zevon. The lawyers are in charge. They're not interested in change. They're interested in a paycheck and then it's on to the next corpse. Wave bye bye to the merck bus. It left many years ago and "new ideas" were'nt on it.

I believe that was the original poster's point. If we continue on the way we are going ... Mother is dead (as are our "futures with Her").

Perhaps REVOLUTION is the only way to change this insanity.

If nothing else, it may give us hope.

Hey, Paul Revere......try giving up on your postings and take some acting lessons. Your rants sound more like theatre of the obsurd than logical thinking. Maybe you'll find a new job in hollywood. LOLOLOLOL

We have sworn, and not lightly. This oath we will keep. We are threatened with many evils, and treason not least; but one thing is not said: that we shall suffer from cowardice, from cravens or the fear of cravens. Therefore I say that we will go on, and this doom I add: the deeds that we shall do shall be the matter of song until the last days of Arda.

As strange as they seem to be covering up their true intentions, Merck just filed for re-organization. There has not been mention of this from our illustrious leader has there? Go read Wsj.

Your leverage will only come from organizing labor. The fate of the company is an appropriate subject for organized labor in many countries. Since you weenies in the US would rather adore the Tea Party and only whine about how your company is getting hosed by its own leadership, using the avenue of organized labor voicing your concern is not available. Now do you see how this Tea Party with its brain-numbed supporters is the very best friend feeble but politically connected American corporations could ever imagine?

Trading one group of thugs for another group of thugs is not my idea of regime change. Organized labor is corrupt and dated.
