Retirees: Did you ever sell samples? How much money did you make?

I got in just as there was increased accountability around samples. Before my time My understanding was that it wasn’t so common to sell samples, but it was not uncommon at all for reps to trade samples i.e. the trunk deal.

That’s hilarious. When I worked there no one ever wanted my samples because we only sold drugs that nobody used . Sanofi was a joke then and it is now. Dupixant is the only drug that does anything and regeneron discovered that compound. This company’s growth in net income comes from slashing cost (thru headcount (reps) and no raises). That way ole pretty hair can increase share price and he makes off like a bandit, thinks he is Elon musk , and gets $10 million bonus off your demise. What a Ponzi scheme this place is. It’s the laughing stock of the industry. Everyone knows it.

If you still pull a meager paycheck out of the dumpster fire known as Sanofi…then you have sold out your self respect and your future career potential. Chew on that, OP.

Back in the dat you didnt need signatures for samples you just opened your bag and handed them out like Halloween candy.

We were balling. Spent most of the money on fancy restaurant meals, whores, weed and goods to bribe to doctors.

Did accumulate $25k in cash (in 1990s money) in 100 dollar bills in my safe deposit box.

Everyone did it.

True story. Before sample accountability became a big thing after 2006 reps could pick up expired samples and just destroy then by opening up samples and dumping them down the toilet or taking them out of the office with little accountability. Knew a rep who would take them to the flea market and sell them on weekends and made a killing. This happened more than people think. This was way before those assholes at Dendrite starting their nazi regime in making samples a pain in the ass. A swear this happened.

NO way. I started in 1984 with Marion Labs. We had Cardizem & Carafate. I did have a few docs, that wanted to know how much I would pay them for using my products. We were told by my boss, to report that to him, and then delete them from our call list. I had 3 docs in my first 3 years to ask me that.

I did catch one doc selling the samples. He did use a lot of our products, I deleted him also.

Yeah. He sold a lot of your products. He deleted you. Haha.

I worked a large metro territory in the late 90's where certain offices would also have "pharmacies". Often times the doctor would sign, you would drop the samples and they would be in the " pharmacy" before you left the building. I never saw a rep selling samples (I never did) but I certainly saw doctors selling them.

When I started in 1979 I heard stories of pharmacists buying samples from reps. I never saw or knew anyone that did it, but it did indeed go on. We were often given stock bottles of meds to bargain with pharmacists to get them to place orders with you that you could bring to the wholesaler (Turnover Orders or "T.O.s") I'm sure some of those bottles were sold as well.

That is a complete lie. I was in pharma for 30 years. I never knew anyone that sold samples. We were paid well by the company and many of us retired millionaires. We would never have jeopardized our job to sell samples. Also unlike the reps today we were fucking adults that did our job and followed the rules and we were rewarded for doing so.

yep..you are correct. I was in from 1984-2013. Loved it. We had few docs, and some of docs that were from India....would send samples to India.....If I found out I would delete them also..Mr K made me a multi-millionare....

When we comarketed a certain PPI I raked it in. I am not proud of what I did but I can't erase the past. I was an outlaw but I have repented. It was exciting being a criminal. The reps living in the Midwest or the boondock states such as Mississippi or Arkansas lived like kings because they made the same as we big city reps. We went without meat and cursed the bread.

I did what I had to do. I did it, got away with it and have no regrets.

Sample accountability started in 1986, not 2006...
