Resignation letter

Ok, so after 8 years I am resigning soon to start my own business. I should be leaving on a good note as I am currently in the top 10. I want to get some feedback on how to do this (field sales). Is it usually an email to the DM or a phone call. I don't want to get too warm and fuzzy as they may just really not give a shit and treat me with contempt. So without over thinking it, what should I do? I have 2 weeks vaca left on the books.

have you considered starting the business while still working for a while? might as well most of the dm's haven't been working the last 6 weeks. you also might consider slacking off but going on the trip if you qualify. otherwise I'd take your 2 weeks then make a phone call to your manager. If your manager thought you did a good job they could always be a reference in the future. Also the respectful thing to do would be not to pile this on the dm right now while they're interviewing. If you hate your dm on the other hand call him today!

I am calling BS on this post because of too many factors. First being that you could get cut in three weeks and would be looking at a descent severance for 8 years. Why would you bow out a week prior??

I agree. If you are starting your own business, you can resign at anytime?! Why now when you can be getting your 4 months severance?! Makes no sense.

If you are starting a business, put your two week notice in and take the pay for your vacay. I know two people who lost pension and 401K match after 6+ years because they were double dipping. Go out on a high note and you will always be welcome back. Get caught cheating the system and lose all. Use Ethicon as safety net if the business does not pan out.

BS. You won't lose the 401k match or the pension even if you were fired for doinking Mrs Gorsky. Ride the wave. Hope you get let go and take the severance. If you don't get cut you can still quit. Once you submit your resignation, you are dead to them. Get what you can. They won't be loyal to you, don't be loyal to them. Sorry, but that's the new credo.

OP here. Don't actually work for JNJ but a very similar company...just rather post it here.

So none of the above issues are mine.

Only questioning protocol and what to expect.
In my mind I still take care of my customers until they find a replacement ...but they may just tell me to pack sand.

If you are really committed to starting a business, jump in with both feet and don't play around. Why wait around for the unknown? You'll stress more about trying to juggle both jobs and not be fully committed to your future. That's no way to start a new business if you really believe in it. That's a scared approach. Successful businesses are created by taking chances.

You sound like a bitter employee giving advice. That's the advice I would take to start my business
