Rumor has it a local area hospital is on a rampage to save money and hired a former Zimmer senior rep to run an internal orthopedic program designed to cut implant costs. All the players are permitted to fish in the pond but all rep access has been denied and all training for Zimmer and competitive devices is done by this former employee to the hospital staff directly. billing, reorders, etc....all done internally and the implants are contracted at 50% off typical RFP prices. Any truth to this? Widespread or isolated to one hospital or small system??

Holy cow....sounds devastating to a sales rep. Does anyone know the name of the hospital(s). I want to be very educated when speaking to recruiters and managers painting a rosey picture for an out of town applicant

You are retarded. Do you really think a manufacturer would undermine the value of all of its reps by offering a 50% discount without a rep? That is contrary to the foundation of all of our business, which is relationships. Whose to say a company would offer a higher discount without a rep? Especially 50%. That means that a rep would be a hell of a lot cheaper for the company. We only take roughly 10%. You are retarded...

The game is changing. Private practice is becoming less common across the US. These surgeon's are now employees of the hospital. It's no longer a surgeon buying from a rep. It's a hospital buying through a GPO or some other 3rd party consultant. Surgeons and reps might not like this new situation but they're really not ones controlling the cash flow.

The role of reps will still be in existence to some extent but they are slowly becoming removed from the equation.
