Regardless of how much was paid or not paid to Perry and his coffers, the Merck we knew is not the Merck we know. It is a pretender instead of an innovator. It is run by lawyers which says something about the priorities of this company. Maybe if they concentrated on good science and good trials, there would not be so much of a need for lawyers. Eh?

The Merck you are working for today is the one that will form your worklife's reputation. One day during "disaster week" Enron will be the case study discussed and the next day it will be Merck's turn. Nobody is going to have the patience 15 years from now to listen to this old tired theme of Old Merck good, New Merck bad. Merck is now crooked and that is fated to be its eternal reputation. It ain't turning around anything and only the ones that don't get it still even talk about the good old days. But its failures are establishing the basis for a foreign ambitious company to one day reverse buy-out its soon-to-be-coming shell.

Good post...well thought out...agreed, Merck is a shell of its former self, and has to be one of the most corrupt companies in a very corrupt industry, in a totally corrupted country.

That is so true, especially in the vaccine division. It played out like that as well in vaccines where there was a hostile takeover by tablet people.
