REALLY 8.5 calls a day??

how do they expect us to make 8.5 calls a day? I don't have that many psychs. These primary care dr.'s write only a few scripts a month and you have to wait more than 1/2 hour to even get a signature from them. How do they expect us to continue this 8.5 calls a day average? I had to wait 40 minutes for primary care signatures as I only have a few psychs.

Just fall in line and do as you are told. You should be thankful that you have a job in this economy. Otsuka is the best - I love Otsuka. If you were worth your salt you would stretch for 10 calls a day.

I think for many of us who have joined Otsuka we are realistic about each day and the 8.5 average. My manager is pretty much giving me the first 6 to 8 months to figure out he geography. In other words I am not worried about call average. So far it varies from 4-5 calls a day to as many as 11 to 12. Now by that I mean if I am in an office with multiple docs and talk to one but see others in the hallway and say hello thats a call. In other words it is a game to play with the computer. Is it a joke? No.. but any good manager will let their reps run their territory and as long as the numbers are there would not care if the metric is faked or not.

You dope, you were hired to fill that metric report with 10 calls, if you do not do so, just watch and wait, you will see how "enjoyable" your job gets....if you still have one. You better get those 9-10 DAILY or you will be replaced with that next drone from the thousands of resumes that sit in the DM's drawer at a quick arms length.

Just wait a few months when the honeymoon is OVER!

Sadly it already is for me.

I agree. The honeymoon was over after the first month. They hold you to the fire with this absurd 8.5 calls a day average.
Everyone lies. No one makes 8.5 calls every day. I have waited an hour for a primary care signature! My boss is nuts when he/she says not to wait long. please--how long would he/she take it if I didnt wait and got 5 calls a day. They make us have all these primary care dr.'s that are overall not writing scripts. One or two scripts, and they put these people on our call lists to get to 8.5 calls a day?!?! It's ludicrous. We should not in a specialty division have to have a 8.5 call a day average. iT'S Otsuka and their micromanaging at its finest. They get worse and worse yearly.

Otsuka metrics out the wazoo They are worse than big pharma

Whats even funnier is that when evaluating you at mid-year and year end, 80% is based on your sales, 20% on these stupid call metrics. But as other posters have stated the 8.5 calls feels like 80% of your time instead of driving business. And what qualifies a half call anyway?

If someone says it doesn't matter, they are in denial. YES, when they evaluate you...if you do not have an average of 8.5 calls a day EVEN if your numbers are good, they will harass you. It's absurd. I, too, have had to wait 45 minutes to an hour for a primary care signature. If I'm in an area where I've seen the 2 or 3 psychs, how do I get to the 8.5 call per day average without waiting or if I don't lie. Most fp's are completely a JOKE to call on a they are scared to death of atypicals and will rarely write them. We can talk to them until we are blue in the face. It's not worth our time. I most definitely think there is creative writing at the end of the day for most reps. They want 8.5 calls, they GET 8.5 calls. They should not ask us to do this. It's worse than any other Pharma Company I've been to--their business plans, and updates and metrics and call notes, etc. waste of time. I've been around 7 years, and it was NOTHING like this years ago.

I totally agree. Big Pharma is not as micromanaging as Otsuka.

The Abilify team just got back from TX, where the SPIN was in full swing. Bob Oliver the VP/Mouth piece clearly stated they "Need Us", meaning the tablet team. They also kept repeating how different they were from Big Pharma. I think every rep in the room had their Jaw drop on that one.

Just got back from TX as well. The survey questionnaire that just came out had knowledge questions on it, not just ratings. WTF? This too is another test? When will it end?

You sir/maam are an idiot. It is folks like you who have screwed this industry. Seriously, admire your enthusiasm...you simply don't know what you're talking about.

I agree. About 15 Dr.s on our call list REALLY matter. The rest write very little. 8.5 is too high and we shouldn't have that metric.
