Go to the Octapharma website (octapharma.com) - not the stipid plasma website. Read the two latest press releases. Octapharma is working on two drugs which will not require source plasma. One of them is in phase III. That is last stage before FDA approval:
1) Recombinant factor VIII derived from a human cell line (Human-cl rhFVIII).
- i.e. No plasma needed. (This is in Phase II)
2) Octaplex - A Phase III, prospective randomized, open-label, multicenter clinical trial designed to demonstrate the efficacy and safety of octaplex® compared to fresh frozen plasma (FFP). Octaplex® is a double virus-inactivated concentrate with a balanced level of Vitamin K-dependent coagulation factors and protein C and S. Octapharma will not need source plasma collection facilities. They are moving away from plasma. They will employ you until their drugs are approved. As more drugs are approved they will need less plasma and shut the collection centers down.
