R&D here; Biofind is down

Sorry to borrow space here on the sales site, but because biofind is down, I was wondering if there were any R&D people checking this location.

Would any trolling lab folks care to check in?

Wyeth VP's have been meeting with Pfizer. One VP from research was in NY last week, maybe others, I don't know.

A huge Pfizer contingent will be in Andover next week. I hear they will be interviewing people to keep their jobs.

There's no word yet on the fate of Cambridge or the therapeutic areas that are there. Word on the street is that Pearl River R&D will be moved, and Princeton will be closed (with some being offered jobs).

Is there anyone that has any other information? How bad do you think layoffs will be in research? I know everyone expects collegeville to be gone, but I think anything is possible. Comments from anyone/everyone are welcome.

Scientist from Cambridge here....
I check this site quite often cause we are hearing absolutely nothing.
I hear positive and negative rumors... they all sound plausible to me.
I'm just ready to know my fate and get on with my life!

Everyone will be doing the same job on Day 1. But expect 40% to be gone by Day 60, unless you are in vaccines. First wave of layoffs will definitely happen before yearend, according to several senior managers in Research.

We were told all research has been "mapped" to the Pfizer scheme of things. At a minimum that tells you who will fire you.

Have not heard that Pearl River research was gone.

Work is at a crawl. as we all await our fates.

Yeah, Sr. management promised that everyone will be interviewed (by Pfizer managers, who will pick whom they like). On the positive side, you have a chance. On the negative side, you have to bid even if your position is maintained, possibly competing with colleagues whose positions are eliminated.

CV R&D had a meeting with HR to learn more about mapling, slating and posting. It only served to scare people even more. Although they said most people will be mapped and will get those positions. High level positions will be chosen from a slate of candidates. Others will be posted (worse situation) and you will need to apply for those jobs. No clarity on what happens to severance if you apply and they offer but you don't take it. If you don't take it, they don't say what happens to severance then either. This may be the case for operations jobs.

Friday morning GSSEL, some regulatory and writers (regulatory type) met with the PFE CMO. Didn't hear how it went. Monday the BU CMO will meet with Directors and above in CV. No meetings yet with RU managements.

Blackberrys will be out of service Tuesday for IT work. ?? to make the compatible with PFE system??

R&D, I'm in sales. What is the (possible) significance of this? Like to know.

Not sure what you're referring to. If you're referring to my observations with Pearl River and Andover, it seems that a lot of R&D will be affected. Probably at least half of it wiped out. And if they're interviewing everyone for their own jobs in Andover (long known to be a safe site), it means that really no one is safe. I am pretty sure Cambridge will be heavily affected. Pfizer has to keep Andover, but it doesn't have to keep Cambridge. They've got to lay off at least 20,000, and research has maybe 1500 people. In Cambridge there are several hundred. It would be easy to let go most of them and then relocate a few.

Originally we were hearing that CV would be closed. Now we are hearing that one of the PA sites (GV or CV) will stay as a possible consolidation site. That is other sites will close and people transferred to PA. This is not confirmed but it keeps coming up as a plausible rumor.

I believe this is possible, if not probable. Coud be that they'll close St. Louis and Cambridge and move people to PA. Someone posted a while ago that sites with <1000 will close (this would be Princeton, Cambridge and Chazy). This also seems possible. I also believe the BBC's will close, except for La Jolla, which maybe be expanded (as per circulating rumors).

Good luck to everyone. To those in the Boston area, the job market isn't that bad right now. There's reason to believe that most of you will be able to find work, depending on your skills.

My take was that everyone is mapped, but that does not assure a job. Also that only "new" openings would be "posted", as opposed to posting all openings and having zillions apply for each.

If we have a total of 90 statisticians, but only need 60, would the sixty jobs be posted, or would thirty be fired and sixty kept?

The question about what happens is you are offered a job, but turn it down, and severance is very pertinent, and unanswered. For example CV guy (or gal) applies for job in Groton, is and is offered it. Does it become take it or lose severance??? Anyone know?

What we have been told in field sales is that you cannot be denied severance for turning down a job more than X number of miles from where you currently live--I thought it was 50, but my manager says 35--not sure. We're still not sure how interviewing, placement, etc., for open positions will work either. Sorry to hear you are as frustrated as we are. Sounds like we are all in the same boat. Best of luck to you.

1) 60 would be posted and/or mapped based depending on if they're current positions already filled (then it would be mapped) or newly created positions that can be filled but are not mapped to someone already (posted)

2) No, it becomes take it or take severance, which you receive if you choose not to relocate to Groton.

If department X in the new organization has 20 vacancies and 60 current Wyeth employess are mapped to department X, all 60 will be allowed to bid, and will be intereviewed by Dept. X managers.
