Quintiles opportunity questions

Hi guys, a recruiter contacted me about an entry level sales rep job and I would like to know if this sounds fair. The job is offering 50-55k, 600/month car allowance, targeting obgyn. It's based out of NYC (expensive, I know). There is also an incentive compensation of 10%. I'm not exactly sure how that works just yet, so if someone could explain, I'd appreciate that as well.

How does this sound to you guys? Fair?

It sounds really fair if you have a lower than normal IQ, don't care about your career path, and generally enjoy drinking yourself to sleep while crying over poor life decisions.

LOL - Thanks for your input. That pretty much answers my questions.

Also, he said it would be 2 days out visiting docs and 3 days on the phone. Not sure if that makes any difference, but I think I'm going to pass.

Sadly, you've gotten some pretty typical responses from a forum like this, and hopefully you've done a bit more research than asking questions here. Sounds like the position you're describing is the entry level "Hybrid" sales position... detailing in the field, and on the phone. If you are actually an entry level candidate, this is not a bad opportunity. Where else can you get your feet wet in pharma sales while earning 50-55K with bonus and car allowance. Unless your feeding a family, or have a crazy high mortgage, or are used to earning a much higher salary, this is an opportunity you should consider. Doesn't mean you have to keep it forever, but it's a resume builder for future opportunities.

Definitely the newer type position as stated, entry level hybrid sales representative. The book is still being written about this position. Full time sales but 40% in front of a physician in office and 60% of time over the phone.
More companies are evaluating this role and viability. Options are truly few and far between in this market these days. Could also be additional opportunities to advance for those that enter early and make an impact. Ask pointed questions if you decide to move forward.
Look up the vacancy management positions, read the description, and see which sounds better if these were your only two options.
If Pharma is of interest, get in as soon as you can. Nothing is forever. You will also learn coverage, routing and reporting and sales analysis. May sound like I am trying to oversell the opportunity but I have tremendous experience and attempting to get back in and facing a brick wall but maximizing my contacts for leads and openings. Best of Success in your decision.

thanks for the last two responses.

Unfortunately I received a message that the job was filled, likely by an internal candidate because it was only online for a few days.

Don't be too upset. This is a blessing in disguise. That job was a dog. Detailing over the phone? Stop it. Find me one doctor that will take that call and I'll shit a brick. You are much better off. Best of luck.

Thank you. I think there are better opportunities out there. The phone thing was a real turn off.
