Quest & UHC Contract

Can you believe that Quest thinks they are going to keep the UHC deal! They are going to keep the lab open in Greensboro and they think that will allow them to wrap Quest Business around the UHC contract. Solstas has an agreement with UHC through 2016. Big Sales cuts coming the week March 17th.

Time to attack is now!

The agreement between UHC and Solstas will not carry over after the buyout/takeover by Quest. UHC nor Labcorp will allow this to happen. There are way too many financial incentives in the UHC/LCA agreement to allow that to happen.

The UHC-Labcorp national exclusive agreement has been in place for over 7 years. In that time, Quest has purchased several labs and taken them over. None of those labs were allowed to remain in-network for UHC. Remember, this is a buyout and takeover, not a merger or joint venture. Solstas will become Quest.

You are totally right. Quest had no chance. And yes you are right, Lab Corp/ UHC contract was official Jan 1, 2008. That date is burned permanently into my brain. You have 2 for 2 .

I sold for Quest when they lost the UHC contract. Quest was in position to put their foot on LCA's throat if they had gotten the UHC exclusive. Major props to LCA for stepping up and getting the huge win with that UHC contract. That win turned the tide in the punch-counterpunch.

Quest people can say what they want now but it was, and is, a huge blow to them. I was there and saw the pain!

It will go down as their ultimate death blow. Someone find Surya, if you work for Labcorp buy him a drink, if you work for Quest spit in his face. Labcorp definitely had smarter players, sad thing is they all came from Quest but bc Quest was so greedy and refused to pay to keep smart talented people they watched them go to the competition, expose Quest weaknesses and ultimately defeat them.

LH didn't have smarter players, their CEO simply had an understanding of who it was (and is) that pays the bills (the payors); a lesson Surya has yet to appreciate or comprehend. Look at the turnover in QDX' VP of Managed Access over the past 8 years.

Solstas is telling all customers that they remain in-network with all UHC plans even after they become Quest. It will be interesting to see how Labcorp responds to this.
