Protein Science Seattle crippled without MW

Of all the mean-spirited, politically motivated targets of the last RIF, pushing out MW really takes the cake. The people who still work here are jealous of the RIFfed. Was it a power grab? Makes no sense...

This was a bullet to the heart. Incompetents like TR call the shots while one of the best managers/brains at Amgen gets let go.

TR is worthless. No leadership skills. Insufficient technical skills. CR&D is 40% smaller than 2007 and completely demoralized. This is what happens when mediocre yes men are put in positions of authority. Shouldn't the scientific "leadership" be held accountable for the substandard productivity rather than rank and file?

MW was a good guy but the vacuum he left is maybe a poor reflection on the quality of the people reporting to him for which he has to take some responsibility. Unfortunately it seems his space will be filled up by default rather than any supposed agenda at reorganizing and improving focus. How long can this headless chicken survive? Is MK just looking for a good exit now?

Some of those reporting to him got RIFfed, too.

The reality is that Protein Sciences has always run bare-bones. You axe MW and you take out the lynch pin. No, the organization is not top heavy enough to absorb it. The highest level in Protein Sciences is ED -- this is where all your drugs have come from, and the situation is deplorable.

The reality is that they don't want leadership. That's messed up. They want people who will do what they're told -- ironically, they don't know what to tell them.

You mean MK and JD pair.

What you said is true. But the emphasis should be "the Amgen way". MK wouldn't survive till now either being merciful to (potential) rivals.

You wonder why there is not a proper R & D process !
