Platelet-Rich-Plasma Opportunities

We are looking for seasoned independents to fill many open territories for a new PRP system. Looking for wide specialty coverage capabilities, orthopedics, CV/CT/T, ENT/Oral Surgery, plastics/aesthetics.

The main competition all over the US is probably is Harvest. Other competition is Biomet, and to some degree Angel (we have the same competitive edge over all three).

1. We definitely compete on price.

2. It is easy to operate and to transfer the technical skills and knowledge to produce the final desired product, more so than any other system out there.

3. There are 4 main types of PRP products requested by physicians (with RBCs, without RBCs, each of those with or without activation) This system will produce all of them. It is easy to manipulate the concentration depending on how much final product is required. In Cardiovascular/Cardio Thoracic applications you will most likely use the 1st type activated with calcium chloride and mixed with thrombin to form a fibrin glue-like product which is heavily laced with growth and healing factors that will be sprayed on the anastomosis and into the sternal wound prior to closing. Results are a decrease in healing time, shorter time in ICU, shorter time on heavy narcotics, lower infection and bring back rates.) It is also used in total hips, knees, and in orthopedic scope procedures of all joints.

4. This same disposable and centrifuge will process adipose tissue for stromal vascular fraction and stem cells (We should have the final protocol by the end of the first quarter of 2015).

Now if only the insurer community would pay for PRP therapy, this remarkable 1099 opportunity would be wonderful. But alas, commercial insurers consider PRP to be experimental, investigational, or unproven.

Thus, the only patients that can benefit from PRP therapy are those patients who pay for treatment in cash, with the exception of patients suffering from neuropathic diabetic ulcers, and only as an adjunct:

When used according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) labeled indication for individuals with neuropathic diabetic ulcers extending into the subcutaneous tissue or beyond who meet ALL of the following criteria:

Adequate tissue oxygenation, as measured by a transcutaneous partial pressure of oxygen of 30 mm Hg or greater on the foot dorsum or at the margin of the ulcer; and
Full-thickness ulcer (i.e., Stage III or IV), extending through dermis into subcutaneous tissues; and
Participation in a wound management program, which includes sharp debridement, pressure relief (i.e., non-weight-bearing), and infection control; or

As a treatment of pressure ulcers extending into the subcutaneous tissue who meet ALL of the following criteria:
Full-thickness ulcer (i.e., Stage III or IV), extending through dermis into subcutaneous tissues; and
Ulcer in an anatomic location that can be offloaded for the duration of treatment; and
Albumin concentration greater than 2.5 dL; and
Total lymphocyte count greater than 1,000; and
Normal values of vitamins A and C.

Well, that must be why it's used in most CABG cases and extensively in orthopedics. Thanks for clearing that us for us. I thought most plastic surgery cases were cash pay by-the-way.

I'm sorry, but if you're unable to sell product unless it's covered by insurance, we could not use your services. Products used in CV/CT/T and ortho cases (knees and hips) come under the DRG.

You need to let the guys at Terumo, Biomet and Medtronic know that they need to exit this business ASAP.

I was not applying for the 1099 position to sell PRP, but thanks for assuming I would be interested in pitching a product that results in a loss of net profit.

Agreed. That is why this is a great opportunity to decrease net income for surgeries that get reimbursed on a DRG bundled basis.

The bundled reimbursement methodology for DRGs has resulted in many hospitals going the "rep-less" route for implants, such as "knees and hips." Hospitals are already struggling to break even, let alone make a profit, and anything that costs extra for the DRG reimbursed surgery results in less profit at the end of the day.

Last, as asked by the previous poster, "what is the company? There is no way to look into this product without knowing..."

Ohhhh, someone just got served! Na Na Na Na, Na Na Na Na, Hey, Hey, Hey, Goodbye!

Hopefully you're familiar with HHS.

Platelet-rich Plasma: Where We Stand
By Niall A. Smyth M.D. and John G. Kennedy M.D., F.R.C.S. (Orth), Hospital for Special Surgery, New York, US.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) may be defined as an autologous blood product produced by the centrifugation of whole blood, yielding a concentration of platelets that is increased above baseline values (1). It is the physiological role of platelets in the body’s healing response that has led to interest in PRP as a treatment for a variety of indications (2).
Additionally, the autologous nature of PRP and its ease of production have led to an ever increasing popularity in its use, with the market value expected to reach 126 million USD by 2016 in the United States alone (3).

From the Washington Post:

"The PRP market was valued at $45 million in 2009, and it is expected to grow to $126 million by 2016."

Former ortho guy. I sold a TON of PRP to sports guys and we used it on ACL's, meniscal repairs, RCR, elbows, and in clinic all day long. Docs charged cash and we all were paid just fine despite the fact that is wan't reimbursed. I had PRP injected in my elbow and it works!
