Reading this board it looks like the pay here is a bit twisted compared with other companies. What can you expect pay and benefits wise for this role? I'm pretty confused reading all the random comp info in the pay thread.

thanks

Physician Office Sales Rep is a new division to the company. I'm sure the pay isn't much if they are paying their new General Lines who handle distribution accounts 85k. If anyone is telling you that you are going to make 6 figures they are lying out of their ass, and considering who they have running this division I wouldn't trust a damn thing that comes out of his mouth. You will be the low man on the totem pole if you take this position. Most facilities are buying up physician practices right and left and once the hospital takes them over you are shut out. Everything that you have fought to get into that practice will now be the gain of the General Line rep. If they tell you anything different they are lying. Take this job only if you have to get your two years and get out.

You must be a washed up hack. To the original poster take this with a grain of salt. Work your ass off, grow a territory and you'll make six figures.

Did you fall down and bump your little head? How in the hell do you expect Medline to pay PHYSICIAN reps 6 figures when they don't even pay the healthcare reps 6 figures? And do you honestly expect Medline to pay the physician rep and the general line rep commission when a doctors office gets bought by and IDN? Are you fucking retarded or just stupid?

Are you stupid. If you check the market, Mckesson and Cardinal both pay their physician office reps well over 100k and many make over 200k. Check what the market is paying before you open your mouth.

Clearly you do not understand Medline. Mckesson isn't even a player in most of the major markets when it comes to consumables. They are a huge software/MMIS player now. If you think Cardinal is so great and grand why don't you stumble over to their board and see how they treat their people.

Medline is not going to pay physician office reps 100k, it's not going to happen. They always tout how they have a rep making a million dollars. Yeah, but the dude lives in LA and has a driver and junior reps that run around the hospitals for him. He's a fantastic rep, but that million dollars doesn't go far out there.

Seeing the issues with compensation here I wouldnt be taking the job expecting to make 120k+ etc. It'd be more for the Medline name on the resume for a few years.

However, I'd hope to at least be able to make 70-80k plus some benefits and a car allowance.

Is that possible? Or am I going to grind away for 50k a year?

All honesty is appreciated as with this being a new position I am confused and hesitant.

Unless they are going to break the mold with the physician reps, you a going to get a car allowance for the first 6-12 months tops. There will be a base, but it goes against your commission. If you don't make more than your base that month, they will pay you but they will take it out of your commission check the next month anything you didn't cover the previous month. Benefits are decent they do match on the 401k up to 4%. The insurance is ok. They have it on a sliding scale the more you make the more you pay.

They are going to work you to the bone. Take the job for two years and then move on.

I am sure this guy said the same thing about the surgery center reps when that division was first created too. I know plenty of ASC reps making well in to the six figures...Suck it!

I was told 700 a month for a car allowance plus a phone allowance. 50k base and 50% commission on your gross profit paid monthly....seems like a solid opportunity. What am I missing here?

You're correct until you say "50% commission on your gross profit paid monthly". All you need to know is you'll make any where from 0 to 6% of sales.

It might look like a Baby Ruth, or for Medline a Clarke bar, floating in the commission pool it is a turd.

The commission average 15 years ago, before the 2nd gen took over, was 5%. If you were 4% or less yonts to u would be asked the leave or realize that you should find another line of work.

Greater competition and GPO deals limit a reps profitability. But, the real story with Medline is that your gross is crushed by an ever growing list of internal Medline taxes. These taxes guaranty Sales Management makes a profit for their Masters in Mundelien and for themselves. A modern commission average would be closer to 2%.

Instead of just paying a salary to sell low or no profit items the Company continues to keep the gun fighter entrepreneur scam going well past it's "sell by" date.

2% of total revenue? An example being 2% of $500,000 total revenue= $10k in commission?

Whats the average physician rep doing in total revenue each year? Or average territory size? 500k? 1 million?

seems like a lot of murky waters in regards to commission

Before taking this position I would really want to know how they are going to handle hospital acquisitions. If a hospital buys your doctor's office are they still going to pay you? Not likely, and with the way hospitals in this country are acquiring physician's right and left there is a strong possibility they are going to work you to death then hand your hard work to the GL rep.

Ask around to see how well Medline partnered with Henry Schien.

If a PO in the territory is purchased by a hospital you will most likely keep the account, it would not be transferred to an Acute Care rep.

BS! When a hospital buys a physician office the purchasing is centralized to the hospital NOT the physician office. True the acute care rep does not call on the offices but the office uses the formulary that the IDN puts into place. The PO rep has no control anymore over what that office buys, the GL rep does!

Don't let them lie to you and don't waste years of your life busting your ass just to have your hard work go to a general line rep.
