I have a quick ques?..im currently a pharma rep wanting to transfer to ortho trauma..do i need to take any of those training classes/programs or can i get in with out? pharma companies teach & train for everything job related. Do med device co's do the same? thanks

If you've been in pharma for more then 2 years, forget it. Spend your energy looking elsewhere.

forget this ass wipe-know nothing, if you are exceptional in sales you can do very well in spine/trauma sales by transitioning from pharma to surgical sales just dont work for Biomet, they are a bunch of turds with 2nd rate products. I left Biomet for a small start-up device company and never looked back, also I came from Merck Vaccine and enjoy reading comments from assholes like this one that says you can't, you cant well if you think you cant then you cant, having a few friends that are neuro/ortho really helps too, just dont fuck them for business like Biomet reps do.

Dear OP, how did it work out? Did you get out of pharma and into devices? We have been waiting over 2 years and haven't seen an update on this thread. I mean, I didn't exactly check this thread everyday but I certainly looked several times a week. Now I am just frustratrated and figured I'd ask you and see how things worked out.

Where are you now?
How's the salary?
How's the job?
How is life?
Married? Kids?

Come on! Leaving all of us in the lurch like this is just plain inconsiderate! I'm not really mad, just disappointed.

I am a long time rep from another company. I hired a pharma rep ten years ago because she wanted to get into "devices". Note to pharma reps: don't use the word "devices" around the ortho industry. Just say I want to sell "implants". However, she was smoking hot and I enjoyed training her and she was used to calling on ten new doctors a day. Crap, I have a $4mil+ territory and I don't call on 10 new surgeons in a decade. So...we would get done with our total joint cases at around noon and then she wanted to COLD CALL!!! the rest of the day. I wanted to go home and take nap. SO...we would call on competitive surgeons day after day getting doors slammed in our face. But she was amazing...she wouldn't take no for an answer and we ran out of completive docs in my territory. We then started calling on other rep's non performing customers and picked up a million dollars in business. Our company backed us on it and transferred these accounts to us. She had some issues with the family life aspect of ortho sales and quit. Pharma rep can do devi..(sorry) implant sales in the right situation

Can I make it in the 'implant' sales business? I am a plump, older, balding short white sales guy of average intelligence. My personality is OK, just like my work-ethic. But I do have years pharma experience and success. Docs tend to like me.
