Phantom

I was been asked by my "coach" to make 8 calls per day. I asked her to define a call. She responded by explaining that when I meet with a health care provider and discuss the products I have promotional responsibility for I have completed this charge.

She showed me where my counterparts are making 8-10 calls per day and I am behind with 5-6. I contacted my counterparts and asked them how they managed to comply. I was then introduced to the phantom call concept.

This has been life changing for me. I now average 10 calls per day with no problem. I have plenty of time for my manicure. I can drop the kids off at school by nine, pick them up at three and get everything done. My coach said I'm rocking it. I'm so excited about this that I have decided my career tag name should just be phantom pharma gal.

I have lots of time to post so look for more threads from phantom pharma gal. I intend to expose the sad reality of this job and the simpletons that manage us, oh excuse me I forgot, coach us.

Pharma jobs are great for money, benefits and flexible hours. Not so great for self esteem.

This is not a career, the rep and ctl jobs are only good for: newbies (youngins), singles and childless couples. As for this phantom crap, what are you talking about? Reps are monitored and expected to be in the field, play naughty and you will be a true Phantom. That is, selling fireworks at a "Phantom" fireworks stand you fool.

I retired a few years ago and have been amazed how many of my old pharma friends I run into who are still "working". When I started a few decades ago, we were expected to be in physician offices and hospitals from 8:30 to 5. People were fired if they were caught at home during a work day. Now I see folks at starbucks, grocery stores, the gym and many times, with their kids and/or pets in casual clothes. This is not exclusive to current Merck reps. It seems to be a way of life for all pharma reps. For managers and managed care reps it seems even more common to find them not in close proximity to medical customers. Maybe it is because we all have cell phones and wifi access that field workers can be in contact with their team so they can be anywhere any time of day and still feel like they are working. Or maybe it is because that customer access has dwindled down to point that those still employed just don't have that much to do.
