We saw this exact same pattern during the Nixon impeachment inquiry. The President tries to block everything. One by one, people within the administration balk and agree to testify. The President then starts throwing his own people under the bus. The courts gets involved and he loses almost every single legal battle and is compelled to release subpoenaed, long withheld documents. When the records (proof) come to the surface, the public, even many of his own supporters recognized they have been duped and start to turn against him. Finally, people in his own party in both chambers let him know they can no longer support him. The now former President is seen walking to what was previously known as Air Force One, and waves at the public, with a forced smile on his face. He gets pardoned by the new president.
