Pay Disparity?

I have been with Solvay/Abbott/Abbvie for 18 years and have won the trip once and a 2 on my review once. My normal raise every year is always under %3 and when I ask for more I am told that I am on the higher end of my peers. If I want more money I have to move up a level to level 4. My question is this.
Pay disparity laws are on the books in many states for 2023, in my state we can ask for our pay range and the company has to provide it starting in January. Why would HR pay a new hire with less experience who I have to train more than an 18 year employee, given all this bullshit about EEDI? Equality is a big word that Abbvie uses but when it comes to pay equality they continually lie to us and then start new inexperienced people $15k more than me. What recourse do longtime employees have besides leaving?

Well your recourse could be to get layed off like I didThursday. I get to go to zero dollars of income so maybe you should think about that and stop worrying about what somebody else is getting. I’d gladly trade places with you right now.

I'm a bit newer to the industry (3-4 years pharma R&D experience), and the general consensus from my peers is that you should jump between jobs because promotions are slow and yearly % bonuses are too little to advance your career quickly. Just need to take a step back and think: Are you happy here? Can you pay your bills? Do you really need 10-15% more money at the cost of uprooting and leaving? It's good to make sure you're paid appropriately, but I wouldn't dwell on it too much if you're happy.

Many of my coworkers have left because of the pay, lack of bonus attainment. Many are club winners. All have received major bumps in pay at their new company. Inflation is killing me. Equity and inclusion at Abbvie relates only to diversity. Not wages. I do believe Abbvie is a good company. It saddens me to be so undervalued. They give horrible yearly pay increases. Even when you perform well. That is how they keep the salary stagnating.

I've heard that they will be giving us bigger salary increases and bonuses this year to combat inflation (~5%). We will have to see though. It's not looking good in R&D with reduced head counts, missing annual goals, and people not wanting to return to the offices.

100% go find a new job. Everyone I know who has left in the last year improved their pay by 20-40k on their base salaries and cut insurance costs in half. If you are waiting for AbbVie you will be waiting a long time. Things will continue to get worse before they get better. The loss of Humira will suck them dry. Best of luck. The grass is greener!
