Of course the bigger picture is that JLL has their foot in the door to allow them to offer the outsourcing at all US facilities. Merck wants out of the maintenance business and concentrate on the core business of developing drugs. Save a few million here and a few there, spread it around in bigger bonuses for the few at the top. You know the drill. They haven't produced anything big out of research lately. Maybe its time to outsource at the top.
Can a JLL employee supervise a union maintenance mechanic?
Can we outsource Tom Lyon?
Ask Pfizer how well JLL has done for them, Corporate H.Q is an absolute shithole. As for saving a few million here and there, That theory is also complete bullshit outsourcing is not cost effective. What it does is drastically reduce the talent of your maintenance staff because what companies like JLL pay their employees is an insult so anyone with any talent and any kind of work ethic will not work for them. All the cost of maintaining your facility are what they are they are not going to change all you are accomplishing is putting another party in charge of your infrastructure and that party is in business to make money. The key to facilaties is management. Great management equals cost savings.
There was some validity to the original post. Facilities Management did do layoffs this week.
