Outsourcing Announcement

Special Announcement July 18th, 2011 - Merck has hired JLL to handle all maintenance groups. The announcement will be who and what departments will be JLL.

Merck has been using Jones Lang Lasalle (JLL) for US facilities management for 2 or 3 years now. Many former Merck engineers are now JLL employees. They may be increasing the services JLL provides, but no way they're replacing the unionized mechanics.

They can,and they will use JLL for maintenance in the Union facility until it is closed. The deal was voted in by the IAM union representing the workers. This was to allow Merck to offer the enhanced severence packages to all IAM members with the intent of higher seniority members to transfer into retirement. This allowed openings for less senority members to stay longer.

Of course the bigger picture is that JLL has their foot in the door to allow them to offer the outsourcing at all US facilities. Merck wants out of the maintenance business and concentrate on the core business of developing drugs. Save a few million here and a few there, spread it around in bigger bonuses for the few at the top. You know the drill. They haven't produced anything big out of research lately. Maybe its time to outsource at the top.

...including Peter Kim!

Ask Pfizer how well JLL has done for them, Corporate H.Q is an absolute shithole. As for saving a few million here and there, That theory is also complete bullshit outsourcing is not cost effective. What it does is drastically reduce the talent of your maintenance staff because what companies like JLL pay their employees is an insult so anyone with any talent and any kind of work ethic will not work for them. All the cost of maintaining your facility are what they are they are not going to change all you are accomplishing is putting another party in charge of your infrastructure and that party is in business to make money. The key to facilaties is management. Great management equals cost savings.

You get what you pay for. Unfortunately lessons take years to be learned.

An email was sent out to management employees at West Point, PA on 7/27/2011 stating that at least 131 management positions in environmental, power plant, etc. are being outsourced to Jones Lang Lasalle at Rahway, NJ.

And Merck drops JLL globally at the 11th hour for.......... "Sodexo Magic" the scam minority division of Sodexo!
You think facilities was bad before? LOL!! Watch out now!

But hey we got some diversity spend!
