Outsource Supply Chain

Supply Chain has been a calamity. Starts at the top with Wengel who has been nothing but a disaster. Sales has steadily declined, thanks to a irresponsible and unaccountable supply chain. CLS has been a joke, Quality is happy hosting team meetings in Venice and Singapore bussing 50 people on jets, One MD has been a disaster.

as a former One MD supply chain gal and now in sales, I am so petrified to convert accounts because I know it will be lost to supply delays. The scorecards are a farce. The well touted Phoenix and Darwin has done nothing to sales but Wim Appelo hides under the codes rationalized metric. Flex has been a tragedy. and now Jabil. Pats on your back for depriving sales of 500 mil over last few years and another 500 in years to come

Appelo has been hiding under the One MD umbrella, downplaying the travesty that is Depuy Synthes. He hired a talented guy in Craig but was threatened by him and fired him at the first chance he had. So Craig double dipped for a few 100 thou. Then he puts Shannon and Pat as co leaders.Did not have the guts to say no to Pat. Instead Pat gets a fat 100+ thou bonus and keeps him for Jabil closure. Now Shannon is running the business into the ground with the udderly useless team she has.

Alex, could you consider outsourcing supply chain to Amazon.

Do you foresee a later wave of supply chain folks being “let go from J&J” to transition to Jabil after all the OneMD restructure is complete?

Since Jabil is into supply chain in addition to manufacturing, my guess is absolutely. Now that the "valve" has been opened it would be a good idea to get as far away from manufacturing as possible, and supply chain is much too close.

There are hundreds of replies on these threads about Synthes but my question is TimC is the new JJG and he comes from a heavy recon background. Is recon in scope for Jabil?

I know someone has a timeline of opcos for Jabil death.

Also please explain your rationale to stay away from manufacturing and supply chain. What specifically do you mean? What is in scope all buyers, planners, procurement, source, wage workers etc?

The new pres is a recon dude. Is recon part of the Jabil plan? What is the timing of Jabil by business?

Define manufacturing.

My theory would be anyone touching the product like quality, line workers, procurement/source, warehouse folks, would be manufacturing related and should be on watch since they could be “transitioned” to Jabil

Look at how OCD/Carlyle transferred entire functional groups in Rochester like supply chain and quality from OCD to Nypro/Jabil. J&J is following the same boilerplate template of first moving manufacturing operations to Jabil, then soon after J&J employees in supply chain, purchasing, procurement, quality, etc. will also transition to Jabil.
OCD updates
WARN Details - New York State Department of Labor

Then afterwards, Nypro laid off the former OCD employees they inherited:
Nypro to shed former Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics jobs

This is the criminal collusion people need to be worried about. The collusion between J&J and Jabil/Nypro to dump employees and save tons of money in salary, health insurance, pension, and retirement costs. J&J dumps their employees onto Jabil, then Jabil lays them all off.

If you work at a Jabil site you should either be looking for a new role (integration and remediation) or a new employer. These sites are redundant and employees are far more costly than the typical jabil person.

Spot on. It starts with manufacturing and will roll out (admittedly over years) to many departments. There will be a day (likely decades from now) when outsourced headcount (though they count these as heads) will out number actual JNJ employees. JNJ is first and foremost a for profit company.

At some sites, outsourced headcount already outnumbers actual JNJ employees. Irwindale & Irvine are already there.

Not surprising. Transitioning to outsourced labor vs. employee with benefits will save JNJ an incredible anount of $. The financial accrual each year for pension and healthcare in retirement is significant.
