Opioid Fines

Mallinckrodt is responsible for the manufacture of 37% of all opiods sold in the USA between 2006-2012. The expected share that Mallinckrodt will have to pay is over $3 Billion.

How will the company with a current net wort of $350 million, with a debt load in the billions, declining sales and and a failing pipeline survive?

Market cap has nothing to do with our ability to pay debt.

Market cap = number of shares outstanding x share price or what the ‘’Market” values the company at.

MC is so low, when MNk goes to fund the debt that is coming from the opioid fines, they will have to issue stock. Several Billion in fines would be a massive amount of stock at the current value.

Debt finanacing the billions in Opioid fines won’t happen. Who would lend a company with a $400M MC $3B?

MC is relevant to debt. It’s funny, the company values itself as have $8B in intangible assets and debt of $7B its really probably assets of $1B, debt of $7B and pending opioid fines. The “Market” sure doesn’t look at the intangible assets being worth $8B.

All good points. This assumes that any fines wouldn’t be stretched over years. The tabacco fines if I remember are spread over many many years.

Doctors are responsible for 100% of the prescriptions. MNK has no sales force.....sooooo
Doctors are going to jail as well...but doctors don’t have the pockets of industry. The feds need to pay for rehab, retraining and prison costs due to the crisis.

All players in the manufacturing and distribution will pay.. many with Jail time.

Drs. Are responsible for prescribing 100% of all opioids. Mnk has no sales forces so.......who’s to blame???

Patients are also responsible for taking 100% of the opioids and getting addicted.. so who’s to blame???

What a loser. Have some shame and grow a conscience. You are taking this company into bankruptcy anyway, at least learn something from this...

This is nothing more than a money grab by states because they can't manage their own budgets and pissed away hundreds of millions of dollars on stupid projects and trying to fund unsustainable pensions and such. Now they see pharma as a way out. Call it legal extortion. I personally believe the MNK fine will be minimal based on the fact that no drug was actively promoted and the companies net sales are about $3 billion. Fines are determined based on company profits and it's only a small % of that. Fines will not be in the billions. The last thing the greedy govt. wants to do is bankrupt a company and lose their annual tax base going forward. Let's be realistic ppl.

The smartest guy in the room is to blame. It must be you, Dr.... I have been told my whole career that what I do is simply play the role of delivery man, samples, lunch, breakfast, dinner for your staff. Now all of the sudden, I am a smooth talking car salesman whom can persuade you to take your hand and write refills * 12.
