Open Letter to Jim Robinson

Please quit talking about accountability until you get some in Deerfield. Data Governance, Sales Operations, & IC are routinely exposed as incompetent. They each have policies & procedures in place that demonstrate a total disconnect from how things work in the field. This continued effort to stress accountability in the field while these departments operate unchecked is only serving to further frustrate your sales force and lower morale.

Ask any rep with more than 3 yrs experience and you'll get a list of things. For starters: there is no indication that these 3 areas communicate with each other. All of them impact the field immensely yet none seem to realize how what they do affects what we do. Our data is abissmal. Dead, retired, moved docs that can't be changed. IMS projecting. MHC info in iPlanit that doesn't match facts or logic. Sales ops doesn't understand how things like physician addresses impact sales. I dare not guess what else they don't understand. And then there's IC. Let's just start with the fact that no month has 35.7 days in it. Forecasting seems to come from another planet. There has got to be some interdepartmental communication and all of these need to communicate with sales & not just with the standard group of "yes that sounds great" usuals. Get some people with years of experience and ask them. We could go on...

Your taking this way too personally. Just make your calls, do whatever is necessary to not get fired, and collect your bloated paycheck. See - it's not that hard!

This quote is reflective of the "pulse" of where the company has gone: DOWNHILL
The company is now full of individuals like this - underachievers who want to just "get by" with little effort. It's no wonder things are the way they are.

We can thank the brilliant managers who over the past 2-3 years found a way to force the true talented, honest, reps with integrity out of this company.

Enjoy the ride!!

This what happens when other pharma folks get downsized and then hired at another pharma co. They bring the worse work ethic in the world. Yes, they say everything perfectly in the interview or while at a meeting, but as soon as they're on their own. Out the dooor about 10:30am,lunch or the gym, home by 3pm. I'm still confused why pharma companies hire other pharma people. It's one big circle jerk. Hire people from outside the pharma world.

Post #5 is way out of proportion. The issues u mention are 2 decades old. Not one of them effects results more than 5% its imperfect but that's why u get a salary.

You're either trying to stick up for Deerfield or you have no clue how to analyze your territory. Projection only effects 5%? Of what territory? You need to do some research friend. Try this, start going into your pharmacies and asking them if they report. Correcting physician addresses alone will affect more than 5% of most areas. We all know it's an imperfect system. The issue is whether or not APUS makes a good faith effort to be as accurate as possible. Used to but not anymore.

This industry is ridiculous. It's always been a joke. Smile and nod your head and take orders and collect your paycheck. Pharma people have been doing it for years. It is the only way to survive and get promoted for doing nothing.

Agreed. This industry is just a classic milking the last breath of life out of profit. But what does that have to do with Jim? So much better than the PS days of paranoia and fear.

You summed up things SUPERBLY here! Without knowing who you are, I think I'm correct when I say that you were hired during a time when this industry was classy. The manner in which you write here tells me that you were uniquely qualified to be hired into this industry. You exhibit qualities of which those individuals who were hired over the past 5-6 years can't fathom!

And you hit the nail on the head with your mention above of the "brilliant managers who over the past 2-3 years found a way to force the true, talented honest reps with integrity out of this company."

A clear example is the manager (East Coast/MD/DC area), who cleverly "exited" all of the legacy reps out of the company within a 2-3 year period. This is the caliber of manager the company keeps on board. This individual brought No true management experience to the table and inherited a high performing team, top performers from other companies who were recruited to come here -part of the ORIGINAL 135 hires! - a Team any manager could only DREAM of having. One by one the team was dismantled. The truth of the matter is that there was nothing this manager could offer these individuals (as most of them had several years more in the industry than the manager). It's as if the team needed to be gone so the manager could appear to be superior!

You cannot afford to argue the points written by Poster #5. Poster#5's comments were written legibly and intelligently, sans grammatical errors!! As Poster 5 described, you write in the manner of one who has been hired in recent years (ie without any substantial years in the industry). Anyone hired more than 10 years ago would never write or speak in the manner in which you do. The hiring process was extremely selective - in many cases, the interview process involved 3-4 meetings. You never would have made the cut!

AND by the way - the issues mentioned ARE NOT 2 decades old!!!

There is really somehing wrong with the Home Office at Astellas! I'm been with 4 diff. companies + Astellas. There is a dark, evil in Deefield - I can't make up my mind if it's somehow a Chicago Pharma mentality vs east coast...or what. It's subjective - but something is very wrong with the culture of this company

JR is in charge. (Theoretically) So it's now his problem to solve. Thoughtful action? I can't see that any of Northbrook takes ANY action to correct things.

Honestly, by what standard do you determine that the days of paranoia & fear are over? I'd say it's worse now than any time since 2006. We're being "lead" by a bunch of emasculated men who can't make a decision and take responsibility for it. Challenge their weakness and pay the price.

Couldn't have said it better! I know the manager you've mentioned here.

Morale is at the lowest point since I joined Astellas ( beginning with Yamanouchi). Look at the management fiasco in the West. Upper management didn't move a finger to find out the root cause..... that being Area Director DB. All the surveys about improving Astellas are just pablum. Things won't improve until the real issues are addressed. When fear replaces trust the outcome is unhealthy.

I think the launch and IC for Myrbetriq is a great start. Off we go to better days.
