Only now that I am gone...

Only now that I am gone from this company and industry do I see what it had done to me. I was with Sandoz/Novartis for over 25 years until being "displaced" in the recent layoff. For the first 15 or so years I falsified nothing. Who I saw was who I saw. Then QTQ and programs that I was pressured to do forced me to lie. I can't tell you the stress that put on me. I worked every day and never dreamed I would be let go. I did my job, why would they let me go? I am not writing this to say that I was done wrong, I understand that I cost more than younger, less experienced reps. Novartis provided a nice life for me and my family and I will always be grateful. DM ride-alongs, teleconferences, role-playing, I-Learn, RD-ride-alongs, useless e-mail from everybody in specialty type roles, expense issues related to head count, etc. By not having to deal with these things, I can't tell you how my life has changed. I don't have a job yet, but I will. The one thing that I can guarantee is that I will never work for a drug company again.

I was also let go in the last blood bath. I was a long term employee, also conducted myself as ethically as I could. Fortunately, I knew my physician base so well I could see everyone I needed to see--whether I sold them or not is another question. I remained in the top 25% of the area. It made no difference--I am gone. Unlike the OP I had a job by January--certainly not in pharmaceuticals. I am making more than I ever did at Novartis, sleep well every night, and am very happy with the $$$$ that I got from Novartis to invest. Life is much better than it was 1 year ago.

Congrats!! I too have been a long-time employee, but have struggled a bit in finding work. Could you let some of us know what field you went in to so we might look into that arena as well. Thank you and may your new career is richly blessed!!

I totally get it....and I could not agree more. I got out right before the bloodbath, though I wa assured I would not be let go...(HA) I knew better....took the chance with a start up and am grateful to be out and things are going pretty well.......NVS taught me to take care of number one....I was not like that before NVS....guess they taught me a good life lesson....in business and career, watdh out for yourself...NVS is doing the same for themselves.....

I was also let go in December and was able to get a better paying job as well. I was able to pay cash for an SUV with all the severance money. Ride things out if you want to, but know that life outside of Pharma is mighty good!!!

Do Not look into pharmaceuticals. Look where your background is strongest. I am working for a large medical organization in promotion and acquisition. I travel a 4 state area negotiating with smaller medical clinics to partner with the large group. The pay is fantastic, the job is fun, I am compensated hugely for each acquisition. I got this job by presenting myself to a former customer, played up my strengths. I make a base pay of $100,000 with a kicker for each new medical system. I pay my own expenses, but so far will make over $150,000 this year. I will travel June and July for fun and will still double what I made last year, not counting my severance. Biggest lesson, do NOT try to duplicate the job you last had. It is not viable.
