Oh so what about the "conference calls" that suddenly come up while FLMs (some) are on field visits??? Umm, yea right. I'm sure you have a "conference" call. So you can go exercise, run errands, etc.

This shows how little FLM's know about the job...and how little general business sense they have. Our "role" is not to paint a compelling picture, set up a call to engage customers or even close at the end of a call.

Our role, wait for it...is to SELL PILLS. Period. Everything you mentioned are ways to going about fulfilling our role, ways that are embraced by Big Pharma and the brilliant consultants they retain. The problem is that those of us in the field day to day have realized that those are not always the best ways to sell pills. Doing a used-car salesman style close does not work anymore.

This is a wake up call, FLM. You have ingested so much Kool-Aid that you are no longer able to distinguish between the rep's essential job function and corporate's direction on how to do it.

Believe it or not....other companies do NOT do these things and do NOT make their reps close after every call. It's not part of a 'normal' sales call to close on every call. Other pharma co. laugh at the way Novartis reps (and others) who have to do these things...well, at least while they are with their manager.
