Oncology Downsizing

I am hearing from an inside source that Lilly Oncology will cut it's salesforce 40% by Fall 2012. One show pony, no merit increases, no new products for at least 2 years, sluggish Alimta sales, region directors leaving. Is this the real "transformation" project? CP did say that they are re-evaluating the biad structure? Is "transformation project" simply code for job cuts? Here it comes.

Yes, massive across the board cuts to come. Look for Symphony II and III to re-norm global functions/levels to a total headcount of under 10,000, with most concentrated in 'emerging markets'

"Symphony" as a euphemism for downsizing is a little sad.

I imagine a maestro conducting, who suddenly pulls out an Uzi, and after giving a cue to the "in the know" crowd to run like hell, opens fire on the remaining orchestra.

Let's make a you tube video. We could have masks for John and company, a big red faux logo in back of them, a stylish podium in front...

I truely believe they think we're a bunch of fools...blind sheep. It's obvious that they are just keeping everyone around in hopes that they can milk Alimta a little longer, and then the cuts will come. No real bonus until March of 2013 makes this pretty clear.

By the way, is anyone else tired of these sorry attempts at hiding the micro managing? CP and JH couldn't handle WIGS blowing up in their face so now we have iAlign? What a joke. iAlign is a worthless waste of time which accomplishes nothing.

There is no doubt about what is happening. They are not hiring for vacated territories. They have decided there will not be an ID school in all of 2012 for oncology. The plan is also to conduct only one more 6 & 12 month school for recently hired oncology reps.

Enjoy your Summer, dust off your resume, get in touch with your recruiters.

NC & CP's announcement on downsizing is coming. And they wonder why people feel like they can't be open and honest without fear of retaliation? I hope folks are honest with them when the "I'm all in..." summit occurs.

By the way, "I'm all in" is simply code for "I'm trying to save me job".

No kidding. During the "Vision Jam" a few years back, responses made in the heat of the moment - it was all very "Wild West" just type em up and shoot em out - were mined for all kinds of data, much of it likely used in downsizing decisions. Management does not want thinkers, they want us all wearing blinders.

Thanks for your post, this is in fact the ONLY place many of us can be honest.

What kind of masks? Pig masks, which, once worn, left the face with a permanent snout, like in that Twilight Zone episode. That would be so cool, esp. for those big snouts at the top. Oink oink!

Do we get to keep our i-pads? Thanks Tim!

"I'm all in!" is what Appalachian Johnny C. Lech. yells to his wife, as she lies bored yawning on her back planning her next shopping spree at Nordstroms up at Caucasians at the Crossings.

As he reaches proverbial ecstasy he whispers 1000, 2000, ... 6000, 7000, 8 oh oh oh 9000! Give me just a moment, let's start over!

Does this have anything to do with the complete yahtzee shake that is erupting over in building 31?

If you were demoted, would you stick around and give it your all? Or would you give it your all to stick it to your master on the way out the door?

Unfortunately customers rate our oncology reps as one of the worst in the industry. They have little access because of this. You never like to see representatives laid off but it is probably needed throughout this division. Hopefully we can place some of the reps back into diabetes where they can focus on the basics of establishing and nurturing relationships.

This post must be a diabetes rep who couldn't make it in oncology. Listen closely diabetes rep. The reason access is difficult is because we've lost all our tools to conduct our jobs. When you show up and an oncologist needs an answer about a life threatening condition and you can't answer their question and then you begin to talk about Lilly Oncology On Canvas, you look stupid and this is reflected in the surveys.

It's not the reps fault that we look stupid in front of customers with urgent needs. The CIA (thanks Zyprexa reps) and our lowly legal department (which is working everyday to eliminate the field rep) are to blame.

A few bad apples, liberal lawyers and a entitlement society will be the demise of this once respectable profession...

Just what do you suggest? Higher educational requirements for new hires?

What? We need to be able to do our jobs. We've been handcuffed by the lawyer paranoia. I myself am embarrassingly overqualified for this job and I know many other oncology folks who are as well. On the other hand, I have witnessed some idiot "car salesmen" types coming into oncology from cardio, neuro and diabetes who embarrass themselves and the company because they are ignorant to the life and death decisions being made in oncology.
