Anyone on here an old Merck Fosamax rep?
Anyone on here an old Merck Fosamax rep?
I am an old fosamax manager, what's up!
The only form I ever had was the thumb delivery system. The patient put on the patented thumb cover, dipped the covered thumb in fosamax powder and inserted it in their rectum and held it there for five minutes.
Though the system yielded superior time to max blood levels and avoided degradation in the gi tract, it was ultimately abandoned. Marketing said the failure to adopt by the patient population was primarily due to the metaphor of "having one's thumb lodged in one's ass" being associated with sloth. Truly unfortunate.
How many reps were there on board during the days of promoting Fosamax? Anyone remember? There was a liquid as well, right? Did the reps have both the liquid and tablet or just one form each? Anything else you can tell me about promoting both product forms during the time they were available?
Thanks and sorry for the delayed response!
It was both. Product was ok to promote, it had reduction in hip fractures versus Actonel. However, due to the theory of class effect they rode our coattails. Huge issues with it causing stomach pain due to the way it had to be taken.
