Old Amgen Viewers

As one of the original Amgen reps from the 80's, I look at some these posts with great sorrow. I know many of you are newer to the company and may not have known the true Amgen and how we operated in the 80's and 90's, at least until 99' when Kevin took over. It saddens me to see what the company has become. I am so sorry to see people so unhappy, people being laid off. The company is a shell of what it used to be. I understand the Jim Dailey's of the world are now being picked off. Maybe that his some hope. I left in the mid 2000's and cashed everything out when we hit the 80's. We will never see those days again with Kevin in the mix. I wish everyone luck. When you get depressed, think about the old days. No politics, no call reports and as Gordon Binder used to say, "don't look at the check book when you write a check. The sales team will cover it." I wish all of you the best.

I am with you. Sadly, it's all changed. Growth? It's not to be. Just more rearranging and memory jogging. Indeed it has been a pathetic eleven years since the new boss arrived.

There is only one time when change is really good, no matter what management says. And that is when a baby's diapers are full.

I am in favor of change when someone has had 10 years to influence a research organization and have nothing to show for it other than laying off some good folks and killing moral.

If I stunk at my job for 10 years in a row I don't think I would still have one.
Life is beautiful.

The old times feel they are entitled and no longer drive for great discoveries

Discoveries???
You talk like you "discovered" EPOGEN!!
What you really discovered was a few scientists not smart enough to license what they "discovered." The whole old-timer mystique is a little nauseating. Printing money on something the govt sponsored to "discover" (yes NIH grant) and then pay for via Medicare in a wild west environment. Please. Try getting laid with $6 in your pocket at a bar in NYC. That is selling!

How about trying somewhere else where a dollar goes further?
