Just got an offer for Senior CSR position in KS. I know the money is good but I am interviewing for pharma job also and not sure which route to go.

I was called by internal recruiter. I am currently working at enterprise as a manager and definitely looking for a change.

Suggestions?

Dear Rest of Intuitive CSR's

In the last 3 days you can see posts from 3 individuals that are seemingly clueless. Some disturbing trends are emerging. Take a look around. 1 air traffic controller seeking advice on cast. 1 alleged Navy Seal looking for a fight apparently, and now a Enterprise rental car guy who isnt sure if he should work for Intuitive or take a pharma job.

What happened to this organization? Used to hire the best of the best and would "never settle" not to have A players. Hiring was suspect in the last year but now it seems anyone willing to come over has a job.

I agree about this enterprise post. I don't think that a Navy Seal or an Air Traffic Contoller is just any job! I'd be willing to say those job training programs are more difficult than our cast.
Lets get off our high horses. We need to realize just because someone doesn't come from sales or specifically a device company that they can't be successful here.

Totally agree!
As a CSR, I truly believe, if I had the proper training I could become an Air Traffic Controller or a Navy Seal. A damn good one.

It's the individual not the position.

While this is true, experience/past success is a often a partial predictor of future success and reduces the need for grossly modified development curve.

I think it is great that we can find talent in non-traditional places. However, be prepared to invest significant time and resources in training and development. And, to expect these type of people to take far longer to gain the trust and rapport with these customers. This type of hire has what is called high-adjustment. And, in this environment of wack-job level micromanagement they have a chance at making it past 6 months.

It is also a good indicator that ISI has a horrible reputation in the medical space and no one worth their salt is willing to risk their career on this unreliable employer. They have scorched the earth amongst both med reps and customers.

Could you imagine a reputable surgeon asking an a rather intelligent medical question of an air traffic controller, or asking more about his background before ISI? Train wreck.

A learning curve I agree. I still gotta believe that our training program is good enough to prepare people without previous OR experience. I have seen many people with no OR experience do very well in the CSR position. Did they have a bigger learning curve? Sure they did but many of them also didnt come through trainning acting like they knew everything.

Ive seen hard work beat out experience and knowlege many times in this position.

Love this discussion!!!!!

Dont forget the air conditioner guy in TX and the recent guy in TN - bar manager.
Awesome.

Hired candidates such as these at ISI in the past. VP insisted on coachable candidates only. At this point you need to go way out of the box to find anyone that would talk this talk and not question the obvious.

What makes me sad, is that as I am exploring opportunities outside ISI, I am being lumped in a class of AC salesmen, bartenders, and a guy that managed a VZW store. I expect to get the stink eye if I try to brag on how amazing ISI is and the quality people that surround me... So much ex ISI reps out on the street.

Bueno! I am work as leading busboy at best donkey show in Tijuana but get offer to sale surgery of robot. Is good opportunity?

Soy el número uno paisajista en California. Mi familia vino aquí ilegalmente hace años y le gustaría obtener más información sobre oportunidades de trabajo en el ISI. ¿Con quién debo hablar?

We used to hire the best of the best. They were also smart and talented. They moved on. Think about this as I have here for the last 4 years.

As a CSR the actual "selling" is limited. No competition, no price negotiation, you show new instruments that's it.

We try to convince surgeons to adopt robotics then force them to do every case possible on the robot. I'm looking to get out. I had 3 interviews with really good surgical companies. All 3 had concerns that I have worked for ISI. Even more concerned that I have been here 4 years. I thought working here would be look on as a positive.

If you have been here 4 years, you have to know how to sell. It surprises me that you can't get another job. I was with them for 4 years as well. Had 5 different companies interview me. Finally went with one that is a complete 180 from Intuitive. Could not be happier. Interview = Sales opportunity.
The challenge in the future will be:
"Oh yeah, I knew this convenience store clerk who got hired as a manager at Intuitive..."
Actually, they might do a better job compared to some of the current managers in Texas and Oklahoma.

Ask yourself this question and answer honestly. What makes you so different from the 100's of incredibly talented people who came to ISI and left thinking that this was the worst experience in their professional career. I am going on 4 years. NOTHING has changed in terms of the culture...NOTHING. You will come on board and do what 90% of the employees do. Get enchanted by the money (which is a lot less than when I started), put your head down and grind it out for as long as you possibly can, then leave and trash the company on the way out because they are truly a bunch of scumbags..

Make a copy of this post. Join intuitive and read this again 2 years in.

Did you actually get the offer to be a CSR or just get a call from their recruiter telling you about the job? 2 very different things...

Because EVERY successful medical device rep that doesn't work at ISI has been approached to interview. We know what your org does and what life is like for the reps. Nobody with skills or experience wants to work at ISI so there is a shrinking talent pool to select from.

You guys act like ISRG is the only decent job out there.

You make what you must make. $180 is good, then eventually you make $400K and laugh about how much you sweated the $180 goal. but growth is good.
