NVS managers are a joke

I think you are a little confused. We are here to make you better! We work with you to improve your skills. It is beneficial for us all.

If anybody believes that then the check is in the mail. I do believe that some are there to help you but the majority are just looking out after themselves. What managers do is look for scapegoats and then say that the person is not coachable. Then they point this out to there RD who doesn't have a clue and the person gets a 1 or put on a pip. Management is just a good old boy network. Managers and HR look out for each other with nobody looking out for the reps. Take it to the bank.

Really, what is it about pharma that requires managers to "babysit"...most other businesses (and a few biotech pharma) almost never do ridealongs and the reviews and "bisuness plans" are very limited (I've had some year end reviews on one half of a sheet of paper - 15 years ago that was how even big pharma did it), yet we try to either justify our existence through meaningless work or do the dirty work that upper level doesn't want to do.

Coaching is a real joke - at what point do we become pros? Then pay us "pro" $$$....not the parltry .002% of sales I currently make. Most managers consider sales skill improvement the latest marketing drive (usually stolen ideas or 3rd party developed -lost originality in pharma these days- from other companies) and couldn't sell water in the desert.

I agree with your overall point but I work for biotech and I can tell you that at least my company has turned into big pharma. We were over taken by GSK leadership around 2000. They implemented the big Pharma model and ruined a once great company. Pharma is only industry I know with this business model, where DM's spend $500-$1,000 a week in trave,l to go and watch people work. 15+ years experience and my DM works with me more than when I started with Sandoz in the 90's. I believe it is a problem the entire industry faces. I am ignorant to what a DM does, I admit that. But good God man, how hard can it be to watch people make calls? I say 1 DM for every 15-20 reps and cut regional managers in half. Too much middle management in this industry. Just my opinion.
